THE NINE LIVES OF CHLOE KING: Up Close and Personal with Amy Pietz, Skyler Samuels & Grey Damon
The cast of the new ABC Family Channel series The Nine Lives of Chloe King made their inaugural appearance at this past weekend’s Comic Con with cast members Amy Pietz, Skyler Samuels and Grey Damon speaking to the press about their show.
Starring in the lead role of Chloe King, Skyler plays a teenage girl who discovers she has special cat-like powers; soon learning she is a descendant of an ancient race called the Mai. Grey plays Brian, the new (human) guy in town who quickly falls in love with Chloe (but who doesn’t know the truth about her) and Amy is Chloe’s caring, adoptive mother Meredith (who also doesn’t know the truth about her daughter).
When asked if Grey thinks that Brian knows the truth about Chloe, he answered honestly, “I KNOW that Brian doesn’t know. I think that is a lot of what Brian’s story is going to be about.” Whereas, when the same question was posed to Amy, she shared that “(Meredith) gets a sense that Chloe might be in some deeper trouble, but (as a single parent) you want to delve really (deeply) without pushing (your child) away.” But she joked, “I think the longer that we draw out (that) whole story line the better.”
The conversation quickly turned to the tenuous relationship between Chloe and Brian because as a member of the Mai, Chloe cannot kiss a human – like Brian – without fatally harming him. Grey shared “to be honest, because of that, it makes (their relationship) all the more beautiful.” Skyler joined by saying that “for Chloe and Brain it’s…true love and with true love, it doesn’t mean that you have to be intimate but (rather) enjoy the time you (have together).” She further shared that “I think it’s a good example for teenagers…it’s a great example for girls to know that you don’t have to feel like you have to rush; you can take your own time. There is nothing wrong with moving slow and I think that it’s okay to be a good girl. I think our show is loaded with good messages and I’m very proud of that.”
While still on the subject of relationships, the conversation was turned over to Amy in regards to Meredith’s burgeoning relationship with Frank Cabrera (Cristian de la Fuente). She shared “from the second I met him I thought he’s so cute I’m not attracted to him because it’s too unrealistic. He is a lovely man. He’s easy to work with and (of course) dreamy. And, gradually I become more comfortable and more confident that okay maybe this guy would ask (Meredith) out on a date.”
Moving into details on upcoming episodes, the actors were rather tight-lipped so as to spoil plot points, but Amy did share that “Chloe’s dad does come back into the picture at the end of the 10th episode, (but) that’s all I know.” While Skyler shared that “there is a moment in episode 8 where Chloe is confronted with a situation where she thinks she (will) have to tell her mom, but it works out and she doesn’t have to, but it’s just a matter of time before she has to tell her mom the truth.” And, then the discussion turned to the announcement made by Executive Producer Dan Berendsen during the panel that “Chloe is going to kill someone who is on the panel” to which Skyler shared rather cryptically that “it’s probably the thing that you would least expect to happen; it’s totally a ‘What? What? Wait, rewind the DVR. Did she just do that?’ (kind of moment)…because it happens so quickly. There are many cliffhangers, and that is one of (them).”
It should be noted that while the ABC Family Channel hasn’t announced a season 2 for the show Skyler said “fans are encouraged to blog, tweet and write to the network” in support of The Nine Lives of Chloe King. And, if you want to get in on all the action, make sure that you tune in Tuesday nights at 9 PM
