The Weekly Round-Up for May 16 to May 20
Here are the entertainment news items for this past week:
TELEVISION NEWS
ABC has moved the summer premiere date for Rookie Blue to June 23.
Syfy has picked up the two seasons of the Canadian supernatural series Lost Girl. There are no current details on when it will air, though.
Actor Masi Oka has been made a series regular on Hawaii Five-0.
TBS and TNT released a slew of details on plans for made-for-TV movies from best-selling authors and quite a number of new scripted shows as well as the announcement that the proposed spin-off to The Closer – called Major Crimes, starring Mary McDonnell – will actually take place in the latter part of 2012. More details on all their plans as they solidify, though.
Actress Jennifer Love Hewitt (Ghost Whisperer) is being eyed to play the new female lead on Law & Order: SVU as Mariska Hargitay has signed a deal to return for the 13th season in a reduced capacity. But, there is no confirmation on this as of yet.
HBO has renewed their drama Treme for a third season.
Actress Lisa Edelstein – who played Dr. Cuddy on House for 7 seasons – will not be returning to the show in the fall, which will be the series final season.
CONDOLENCES

CASTING SCOOP
Actress Lena Headey (Game of Thrones) will guest star in an episode of White Collar, playing a skilled hacker suspected of a major cyber crime who “gets close” to Mozzie (Willie Garson). The show returns on June 7 at 9 PM with new episodes.
Actor Nicholas Bishop (Body of Proof) will guest star in the new USA Network series Necessary Roughness, playing Griffin Page, a dashing former war correspondent who goes on to host his own cable news show. Page seeks treatment from psychotherapist Dani (Callie Thorne) after inexplicably cracking up during a somber report and getting suspended from his job. The show debuts on June 29.
Actor Leon Rippy (Saving Grace) will have a recurring nemesis role on Leverage when the show returns with new episodes on June 26 at 9 PM. He will play a mysterious Warren Buffett-type named Mr. Latimer.
Actor Joel Gretsch (V and The 4400) will guest star in an upcoming episode of In Plain Sight, playing Major Lucas Provo, a JAG Corps attorney who comes to Albuquerque to help with Mary (Mary McCormack) and Marshall’s (Frederick Weller) most recent witness: a decorated war vet with a troubling secret. Provo proves unflappable and inscrutable as he and Mary spar over the best course of action for the witness. Despite Mary being six months pregnant and feeling completely unromantic, there seems to be a spark between Mary and Provo.
The recurring role that actress Nancy Travis would be playing in the recently picked up CW series Hart of Dixie is being recast because Travis is a series regular on the new ABC comedy Last Man Standing. The studio will not permit her to recur on the CW drama.
British actor Chris Vance (Prison Break and Burn Notice) has been cast as the lead in the TV version of the Transporter action movie franchise. He will play expert driver and “professional transporter” Frank Martin. Meanwhile, Hungarian actress Andrea Osvart will play his handler Carla. The first season will be shot this summer and broadcast next year on Cinemax. There will be 12-episodes in the first season.
NOTE: The weekly calendar and the box office news will appear separately this week.
Have a great weekend!
