Excitement for Mid-Season TV

By  |

It’s January and that means one thing: mid-season TV! Yes, I know the New Year just started and that’s great, but when you are a TV-ophile, like us here at NiceGirlsTV, you tend to suffer from tunnel vision, focusing on your obsession with that big screen sitting in your living room – or in my case the only room in my little house.

I have been anxiously waiting for mid-season TV to start once the repeats began airing before the Christmas holiday. If you had the opportunity to review the January TV calendar that I posted at the end of last week, you discovered there are a lot of returning shows as well as more new series for which to get involved over the next few weeks and beyond leading into February and March. So much programming, in fact, that it can be a little overwhelming deciding what to watch.

Caprica

Now I can’t tell you what you have to watch, but I will recommend what you should consider watching. First up is Caprica, or at least the final five episodes of the series’ first and only season, which will air back-to-back on January 4, starting at 6 PM. This will be the last time we see this Battlestar Galactica prequel so make sure you don’t miss out, especially if you got hooked on this short-lived series.

Being Human (US Version)

Then on January 7 there will not only be the day-long marathon of season 2 episodes of Merlin, but also the season premiere of season 3 of this magical series. Ten days later (on January 17), Syfy will introduce the U.S. version of the UK hit Being Human, starring Sam Witwer, Meaghan Rath and Sam Huntington in the signature roles of vampire, ghost and werewolf (respectively).

Life Unexpected

The very next night the CW will broadcast the final two episodes of the family drama Life Unexpected. If you became as captivated with this series as I did, you won’t want to miss these 2 hours. That same night the popular USA Network series White Collar will be back with new episodes and the viewing audience will finally find out what really happened to Mozzie.

Being Erica

On January 20, Royal Pains will return with more new episodes on the USA Network followed by the debut of the new USA series Fairly Legal, starring Sarah Shahi as a savvy lawyer turned mediator who can work magic for her clients but not so much for herself. And then on January 26, the much anticipated return of the Canadian series Being Erica will air on SOAPnet.

The Vampire Diaries

Of course, there are the returning shows such as Castle, which was back on with a new episode last night and the returns of  Chuck on January 17, The Vampire Diaries and Nikita on January 27 and then Smallville and Supernatural on January 28 to look forward to seeing again. And, there are also several made-for-TV movies to watch, including the Hallmark movie called Perfectly Prudence, starring Jane Seymour and her former Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman co-star Joe Lando that will debut on January 8, the Hallmark Hall of Fame movie on CBS called The Lost Valentine, starring Jennifer Love Hewett and Betty White as well as the 4-part mini-series Downton Abbey on PBS that will air on Sunday, January 9, 16, 23 and 30.

NOTE: A little bit of trivia for the Dr. Quinn viewers out there. The Perfectly Prudence movie is the first time in 10 years that Jane Seymour and Joe Lando have appeared on the screen together since the last reunion movie of Dr. Quinn aired in 2001 and 18 years since the debut of the popular series.

The above TV shows and movies are just a small sample of what is in store for the viewing audience in January with more to watch in the coming months. Please check out the January 2011 TV calendar here and be on the look-out for more monthly calendars here at NiceGirlsTV.
