New Year’s Resolutions TV-Style

By  |

Every New Year people make personal resolutions to improve their health, their future and their overall happiness. For those of us here at NiceGirlsTV, the personal resolutions we tend to make are related to our love of television.

Now I could make a list of things that I would like to see improved on TV in terms of certain types of programming or maybe make a list of the shows that I would like to see get a better time slot or perhaps create a list of actors who I would like to see land a role in a great series.

But rather than do any of the above lists I decided to do something slightly different this year. Something that combines my love of TV with the “normal” personal resolutions that we all make each year.

Jane Bingum from Drop Dead Diva

1. Be Like Jane – Jane Bingum on the Lifetime series Drop Dead Diva has gone through a lot since her death; she came back to life with the soul of a vapid but well-meaning model and all of her own intelligence. While that may not sound very promising in terms of a New Year’s resolution, the reason I would like to be like Jane is because she has become accepting of her new life and all the changes that have come her way. I simply want to become more accepting of change.

Nathan Fillion

2. Be Like Rick – While Rick Castle is a world-renowned author and a pain in the ass to Detective Kate Beckett on the ABC series Castle, he is a caring and compassionate person with charm and wit. He has a great personality and is great with his friends and family. I would love to be more open and receptive like him.

Annie Walker on Covert Affairs

3. Be Like Annie – In her job as government agent in Covert Affairs, Annie Walker is smart, quick witted and a linguistics whiz. While I’ll never be an ace in languages, as that will just take too much time, I would love to be more adept like she is and be just as smart.  So, I could resolve to take some night classes to improve my book smarts and/or some classes in physical fitness to be in better shape (although knowing me the physical classes won’t ever become a reality but the night classes just might work eventually).

Rachel Berry from Glee

4. Be Like Rachel – Yes, Rachel Berry on Glee is overbearing, self-centered and an attention-seeker, but contained in that small body is the powerful voice of an angel. As much as I love music and love to sing and dance, I am not even close to being in the same ballpark as Rachel in terms of vocal ability. I would LOVE to be able to sing like her, though, and while that’s more a wish than a resolution I guess I could take singing lessons to improve my voice.

Elena Gilbert from The Vampire Diaries

5. Be Like Elena – Elena Gilbert from The Vampire Diaries may have a vampire for a boyfriend, have a witch for a best friend and vampires and werewolves surrounding her on all sides, but her heart is fully open to love and protecting those she loves with every ounce of her being. I would like to resolve to be more open to that kind of love and devotion.

So there you have it, my list of personal TV-related resolutions for the New Year. What characteristics from some of your favorite characters on TV would you like to try to emulate in order to resolve to be more like them in the New Year? Please share and, most of all, have a wonderful holiday with your family and friends!!
