Buffy, Angel Writers Developing New Shows for the CW
It must be a Joss Whedon kind of day! We get our first look at Buffy/Angel/Dollhouse alum Eliza Dushku in her guest spot on The Big Bang Theory, and now comes word that three writers from those three shows are developing new projects for the CW. Marti Noxon and writing partners Sara Craft and Elizabeth Fain have been tapped to bring two new projects to life at the network.
Noxon, a writer and executive producer on Buffy and Angel who has since worked on Mad Men, Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice, will executive produce the CW drama project Chloe with her production partner Dawn Parouse (Prison Break). The series revolves around a young female con artist who dies and returns to earth as a Divine Covert Operator (read: angel). Jason Fuchs (Holy Rollers) is on board to write the initial treatment.
Fain and Craft, meanwhile, are in charge of bringing the The Secret Circle book series to the screen. Haven’t heard of the Secret Circle? It’s the three-book series written by L.J. Smith, author of a little series you might know – The Vampire Diaries. The Secret Circle would be a one-hour drama about a California teen who moves to her mom’s hometown of New Salem and discovers that she is a witch. Judging by the book synopses, the series would move a little more toward the darker tone of Nikita and The Vampire Diaries, something the network seems to be interested in as a growth strategy. Given the breakout status of The Vampire Diaries, which is even better in its sophomore season, we have to think the CW is itching to get this one off the ground.
Both series are in early development stages, but they certainly look promising.
