The Summer TV Calendar for August
Summer is nearly at an end, but there are still some new TV shows and made-for-TV movies to look forward on the major networks and cable channels. The following TV calendar is here to help with your viewing options. Please keep in mind these dates and times could change so please watch your local listings for alterations.
August – The Syfy movie Mandrake will debut (check local listings for airtime)
MOVIE SYNOPSIS: A group of adventurers searching for a Spanish conquistador artifact find that the jungle around them is a single living being – and it’s not happy they are there.
August 1 – The new drama Rubicon will debut for 2 hours on AMC starting at 8 PM
Show Synopis: This conspiracy thriller set in a New York City based government intelligence agency, API, where nothing is what it seems. The series stars James Badge Dale (The Pacific and 24) as Will Travers, who, faced with a shocking tragedy, begins to uncover clues that point to a complex and sinister conspiracy. The cast includes Jessica Collins (The Nine) and Miranda Richardson (Sleepy Hollow).
NOTE: The show will shift to its regular 9 PM timeslot the following week.
August 3 – The Canadian comedy series 18 to Life will debut on the CW with back-to-back episodes at 9 and 9:30 PM
Show Synopsis: This 12 episode comedy follows Tom and Jessie – 18-year-old next-door neighbors who have grown up together – who run off and get married, forcing their warring families to become one in this hilarious multi-generational half-hour about relationships, true love, and who takes out the garbage. The series stars Stacey Farber (Degrassi: The Next Generation) and Michael Seater (Life With Derek) as the young lovers.
NOTE: This series has been pulled by the network after only a few episodes with repeat episodes of Life Unexpected airing in its place, starting immediately.
August 4 – Dark Blue will return to TNT at 10 PM
August 8 – There will be a 3-episode marathon (the first 3 episodes of the second season) of Being Human on BBC America, starting at 3 PM (ET)/12 Noon (PT)
August 8 – The TV premiere of the movie Wild Child will air on the ABC Family Channel at 8 PM
MOVIE SYNOPSIS: The movie stars Emma Roberts as an LA diva who does what she wants, when she wants until an over-the-top prank finds her shipped off to a British boarding school. The movie co-stars the late Natasha Richardson and Aidan Quinn.
August 6 – The Disney Channel made-for-TV movie Den Brother will air – check your local listings for time
MOVIE SYNOPSIS: The move is about a teenage hockey star who is suspended from play and then must step in as substitute leader for his younger brother’s scout troop.
August 8 – The made-for-TV movie The Devil’s Teardrop will air on the Lifetime Movie Network at 8 PM
MOVIE SYNOPSIS: Tom Everett Scott (Southland) stars as retired FBI agent and handwriting specialist Parker Kincaid who is called in by Special Agent Margaret Lukas (Natasha Henstridge) to help solve the case of a serial killer who has left dozens dead and only a ransom note demanding $20 million or more people will die. Meanwhile, Kincaid must fight his ex-wife (Rena Sofer) for the custody of his two children. The movie is based on the book of the same name by Jeffrey Deaver (The Bone Collector).
August 14 – The Hallmark Channel movie Class will air at 9 PM
MOVIE SYNOPSIS: Justin Bruening stars as wealthy Whitt Sheffield, who is in his last semester of law school when his radical-thinking professor, Victoria Corrales (Constance Marie) gives his class a very different kind of assignment: to act as a mentor and advocate for a young, single mother (Jodi Lyn O’Keefe) who needs help finding-and keeping-a job. The movie also stars Eric Roberts and Maxwell Perry Cotton.
NOTE: The movie reairs on August 15 at 9 PM.
August 16 – Weeds returns to Showtime for its 6th season at 10 PM
August 16 – The new series The C Word will debut on Showtime at 10:30 PM
Show Synopsis: Laura Linney stars as a wife, mother and teacher who upends her life after receiving a terminal cancer diagnosis. The subject matter is very dark, but the series will attempt to look at the lighter side of this disease and the effects it has on the lead character. Oscar nominee Gabourey Sidibe and Oliver Platt are to co-star.

August 20 – The season finale of Flashpoint will air on CBS at 10 PM
August 21 – The movie Lake Placid 3 will debut on Syfy (check local listings for date and airtime)
MOVIE SYNOPSIS: A game warden, his wife and their young son move into their aunt’s cabin on Lake Placid, where the lonely boy starts feeding baby crocodiles he views as pets; but three years later, the crocs start looking at him and his family as food. The movie stars Colin Ferguson (Eureka) and Yancy Butler (Witchblade).

August 22 – The finale of Army Wives will air on Lifetime at 10 PM
August 24 – Hawthorne and Memphis Beat will air their season finales on TNT at 9 and 10 PM respectively
August 26 – Burn Notice and Royal Pains will close their summer runs on the USA Network at 9 and 10 PM

August 28 – The final episodes of the NBC mini-series Persons Unknown will air at 8 and 9 PM

August 28 – The Hallmark Channel movie The Wish List will debut at 9 PM
MOVIE SYNOPSIS: The movie stars Jennifer Esposito (Samantha Who?) as Sarah Fischer, an anal-retentive, by-the-book human resources executive for a book publisher who has had it with bad dates and decides to create a “wish” list featuring all of the traits a man must have to meet her stringent criteria. But then after she meets Mr. Perfect, the question will become: does she really want him? The movie co-stars David Sutcliffe (Gilmore Girls) and Mark Deklin (soon to be seen in Lone Star).
August 29 – The season finale of the Lifetime series Drop Dead Diva will air at 9 PM
