Nice Boys
Nice Boy of the Week: Timothy Hutton
With the season 3 premiere of Leverage coming up this Sunday, we thought Timothy Hutton would be the best choice to carry this week’s Nice Boy scepter. Hutton plays Nathan Ford, the Brains behind the Brawn, the Thief, the Con Artist and the Hacker on the show. Nate is a former insurance investigator who left his job after the tragic death of his son. It was his son’s death that prompted Nate to take on the mantle of Defender to people who were victimized by big corporations, big money, big bullies.
Timothy Hutton’s career began with parts in several television movies, most notably the 1979 ABC TV film Friendly Fire. That year, he also played the son of Donna Reed in the Ross Hunter NBC television film, The Best Place To Be. Hutton then made two CBS made-for TV films in 1980 – Young Love, First Love with Valerie Bertinelli and Father Figure with Hal Linden. For his first feature film performance, as Conrad Jarrett in Ordinary People (1980), Hutton won both the Academy Award and the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor. His performance also earned Hutton the Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year in a Motion Picture – Male. Immediately following his great success, Hutton starred in the acclaimed 1981 ABC television film A Long Way Home co-starring Brenda Vaccaro.
More feature films came along including Taps, with George C. Scott, Iceman and The Falcon and the Snowman and Last Holiday, with Queen Latifa. Hutton also landed roles in French Kiss and Everybody’s All American.
The Broadway stage beckoned as well, and Timothy Hutton answered with his debut role in Love Letters, followed by the hit comedy Prelude to a Kiss.
Returning to television, Timothy took on the role of Archie Goodwin in A & E’s Nero Wolfe Mystries in which he also served as an executive producer, and directed several episodes of the series. His other directing credits include the family film Digging to China (1998).
As you can see, the man wears many hats, and now he can include the one of Nice Boy.
