By  |

Here are some of the entertainment news highlights for this past week:

NEWS

ITV in the UK has canceled Primeval after 3 seasons. However, this may not spell the end of the show (per se) as there is the possibility of a US series or a feature film.

More Comic Con Updates: David Tennant and Russell T. Davies will attend and panels for Doctor Who, Mighty Boosh, Torchwood and Being Human are being planned.

It has been confirmed that T. R. Knight will not be returning to Grey’s Anatomy in the fall while Jesscia Capshaw has been promoted to series regular.

MUSICAL HIGHLIGHTS

Carly Smithton (Season 8 of American Idol) will be joining with former Evanescence musicians to create new band called The Fallen. An album will not be forthcoming rather they will break every 8 weeks during their proposed year and a half tour to record two new songs that will be available online.  You can learn more about them at www.wearethefallen.com.

FILM TIDBITS

A remake of the theatrical film Red Dawn is being cast with Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek), Josh Peck (Disney’s Drake & Josh) and Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights) among the first cast members.

It looks like Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl) and Julianne Hough (Dancing With The Stars) are one step closer to playing the leads in the remake of the 80’s classic Footloose.

CASTING SCOOP

Supernatural is looking to cast the Devil for Season 5. The Devil will be seen in the premiere and the 3rd episode (thus far). The Devil is described as: “Male, 30s to 40s. He is soft-spoken, strangely sympathetic, more vulnerable than evil.”  Any thoughts on who it should be?

You can hear Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) sing in a fall episode of Cartoon Network’s Batman: The Brave and the Bold. This episode will also be screened at Comic Con next month.   It’s not Dr. Horrible, but we’ll take what we can get, right?

Rick Worthy (Battlestar Galactica) is joining Heroes, play Matt Parkman’s (Greg Grunberg) new partner: an experienced and capable Los Angeles cop.

Clayne Crawford (Jericho) has been added to Fox’s 24 as a recurring cast member.

Reiko Aylesworth (24) could possibly have a recurring role in Stargate: Universe now that she’s been dropped by ABC’s fall series The Forgotten.

Brian Austin Green (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) will be featured as the new villain in at least two episodes of Smallville in the fall.

Andre Braugher (Homicide) will guest star in the two-hour season premiere of House on September 21.

Linda Hunt (The Year of Living Dangerously) has signed on to be a regular on NCIS: Los Angeles.

Josie Bissett will be seen this fall in at least one episode of the remake of Melrose Place, reprising her role of Jane Mancini.

Meg Ryan will guest star in an upcoming episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, turning up early in the 7th season of the HBO comedy when it returns in September. The season will also feature a multi-episode story line that reunites the Seinfeld cast.

The Stephen Spielberg planned TNT series (which remains nameless right now) which has a plot much too similar to the ABC TV series V is attempting to talk former ER star Noah Wylie into playing the lead role.

Maggie Grace (Shannon) from Lost may be returning for the final season.   The same can be said for Emilie de Ravin (Claire) and Dominic Monaghan (Charlie).  Time will tell if these prove to be true.
