The Envelope

By  |

If there’s one thing that we Angelinos love, it’s talking about famous people in expensive clothes. Which explains why four years ago, The Los Angeles Times started to run a site for awards season. Years later, the section, The Envelope has moved into a printed form, and the paper helps to put on events before each award season for the purposes of allowing the voting members a chance to see the films (or television shows.) In addition to letting those voting see the episodes, it has expanded to include ordinary Angelinos.

Last night, with a few of my friends and their friends, we all waited around Grauman’s Chinese Theatre to hopefully get into one such Envelope screening for Californication. Now, I’m sure you’re all wondering why I went, but that’s another story I’m not getting into right now. The group’s fine skills at getting into events like this, we found our way into the panel, many hours after arriving and sitting. If only everything had gone quite as expected after we arrived into the theatre. The event started with the episode, only after a few minutes, it was clear there was a synchronization problem, and the cast (notably David Duchovy and Evan Handler) talked to us before the panel was started. Of course, there had to be one person who before we got to the panel had to comment on Duchovy’s personal life, which put some of us off for the start. Quickly that problem faded into the background, and the rest of the question and answer session went as well as I have come to expect (never underestimate the awkward fan question.)

After a pretty interesting panel, the episode was screened (correctly) and then we all left.

Next week, I’ll be back (hopefully) for another event for In Plain Sight which is set to feature the cast and creator.
