Take Me To The Fringe, Peter Bishop!
So the premiere of the much-hyped Fringe wasn’t as jaw-dropping as some other premiere episodes I’ve seen (including Abrams’ own Lost), but it was solid, it was entertaining, and it set us up for what should be an interesting ride. Roberto Orci has been comparing the show to The X-Files and I absolutely see the connection. Except this time Mulder is snarkier and Scully actually believes.
The chemistry between Joshua Jackson and Anna Torv is terrific! Their dialogue was practically zinging around the room, yet I didn’t get a hint of sexual tension (not yet, anyway). I hope we don’t go down that route for a while. After all, the man who finally got Olivia to confess her love just turned out to be working for…someone (Massive Dynamic?) plus she accidentally killed him. After going into a drug-induced dream state to save him. Except is he really dead? Yay for complicated relationships!
Joshua Jackson and John Noble have some excellent chemistry as well. I wondered how Josh was going to stack up against Shakespearan, theatre-trained John but I’ll be darned if he didn’t go toe-to-toe with the guy and hold his own. Well done! Loved it when the two of them started talking chemistry together. I don’t understand what they said, but it was a nice way of creating a bond between them. I’m looking forward to seeing more of that dysfunctional relationship.
I was trying to write down all the great one-liners from the show last night, but I couldn’t keep up. Peter’s snark made up most of what had me chuckling (chuckling! at an Abram’s show!) but Walter and Olivia had some good ones, too. Can’t wait for next week!
