Roundtable: Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. “The Force of Gravity”

By  |

Last night’s episode of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was pretty intense, finding Talbot becoming the new big bad instead of Qovas and Kasius’s daddy.

Here is the tagline for the episode entitled “The Force of Gravity,” which leaves a lot to interpretation:

“Daisy’s future as the destroyer of worlds could take a critical change.”

Here is what Karen, Roz and Rueben had to say about the penultimate episode:

In that very last scene, what do you think Talbot is after, needing Robin (with her mom) there to tell him where to look?

Karen: That’s where the last of the Gravitonium is. He thinks that will “complete his transformation,” and give him the power he needs to defeat Thanos.

Roz: I’m with Karen here; Talbot wants that Gravitonium so he can meet Thanos (but hey why hasn’t anyone in this group disappeared yet? Those odds seem weird!). But I doubt in a battle between Talbot and Thanos (that) Talbot wins.

Rueben: It would certainly seem that is what he is after, huh? He seems very delusional in the thought-process that he can defeat Thanos, at least in my opinion. I don’t think anyone or anything can stop Thanos as long as he has all the Infinity stones. And, I agree with Roz, how come no one has simply disappeared yet? That just doesn’t seem feasible given how many character from that universe have disappeared already.

It was quite cool to see Deke outside the cell door where May and Coulson were being held just as Coulson was going to use his “robo-arm” to get them out. What did you think of that moment?

Karen: I swear, Deke is becoming one of my favorite utility players on SHIELD. It was a testament to how valuable he’s becoming when Coulson treated him as a regular team member. Also, Deke was more together than I’ve ever remembered him being. Great scene all-around.

Roz: Deke has a decent head on his shoulders when he wants to use it, so I applauded him. But not just there but when he read enough to turn those missiles around.

Rueben: I was pleasantly pleased to see him come to the rescue, so to speak. He did really help May get the missiles realigned AND get them off that ship and teleported down to the Lighthouse. I’d say he just might be the MVP of the episode.

How about Daisy breaking free of the alien’s forehead device and taking out those alien claw-men?

Karen: BAM! Awesomesauce! That is some serious fortitude. She’s a force to be reckoned with, even when she’s away from her body.

Roz: Awesome to the power of ten!

Rueben: She really is one powerful women, isn’t she?!

Okay, so Coulson laid a serious lip-lock on May. Do you think it was just to shut her up or something much more?

Karen: C’mon, it’s way more. They’re into each other big time. I may not be a huge Mayson (is that their portmanteau?) shipper, but that was a seriously swoony scene. I enjoyed Daisy’s reaction as well. “Mom and Dad are kissing! Ewwww!”

Roz: It did shut May up, but I think with him knowing he might not live, he wants to make the most of his time. Kissing included.

Rueben: Agreed, Karen. Daisy’s reaction to that kiss was priceless! You are also right, Roz, that he knows his time is short [although we hate thinking about that] so he’s not holding back on anything.

How in the world are they going to stop Talbot?

Karen: Unfortunately, I think they’re going to let Coulson die in order to save the world. They need to concentrate all of their resources on Talbot if they want to take him down, and that won’t happen if even a couple of them are trying to save Coulson.

Roz: I don’t see them being able to stop Talbot and save Coulson, unless Robin can do something seriously awesome to trip (up) Talbot.

Rueben: Oh, Roz, I love that idea…that Robin could trip Talbot up. That might be the only way to stall him long enough for the rest of the SHIELD team to figure out a way to stop him, but I have a bad feeling that we’re going to lose Coulson in the finale, leaving us hanging for God only knows how long [especially since we don’t know the status of the show’s future].

Do you think they will be able to save Coulson, breaking the loop as Fitz suggested to Jemma, or will they have no choice in order to save the world?

Karen: I don’t. I think they’ll end the season with Coulson’s death. I HATE that thought because I LOVE Clark Gregg and Coulson in turn, so I don’t want to see him go.

Roz: Doubtful.

Rueben: I’m really doubtful too. Like I said before, I don’t want to see anything bad happen to Coulson, but I think they may not have any other choice than to sacrifice him in order to save the world.

The season finale of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will air on ABC next Friday, May 18 at 9/8c.
