VICTORIA: “The Clockwork Prince” {Recap}

By  |

Victoria gave us an tease at Prince Albert last week, and this week, we see more and more of the man known as “The Clockwork Prince” by many people in Queen’s Victoria’s circle.

Victoria (Jenna Coleman) finally has a man at her side, and this one isn’t chosen at the whim of her government’s ever-changing agenda. Prince Albert (Tom Hughes) slowly works his way into Victoria’s life, though his is aloof and cold for most of the time that they meet until the moment she proposes.

But watching the two of them get to the final moment where they kiss for the first time, and choose to spend their lives together, allowed the audience to also see some great smaller characters shine.

Prince Ernest (David Oakes) does his best to lead his brother towards their cousin, while also looking like a smarmy Prince who wants to sleep with everyone he can.

Lord Melbourne (Rufus Sewell) also does his best to lead Victoria to a match that will let him retire from Parliament and move back to Brocket Hall. Even though he admires and works hard for Queen Victoria, he also has his own interests that have taken a backseat to the job of running the country with Queen Victoria.

So now we’ve reached the point where perhaps Melbourne can retire gracefully and know he has left Victoria in the hands of someone who guide her without being overbearing.

Victoria returns for another four episodes on Sundays at 9PM on PBS.

Roz lives in the Los Angeles area, and has been a long time California girl. Despite her better judgment, she enjoys shows about the shallow sides of her home city, but will also find time to watch iZombie, Jane the Virgin, and much more. With a love of history, she also watches anything that is grounded in real life, including Victoria and black-ish. Having worked with children, she also follows shows she knows they watch (reminding her of those days of yore for her in the process). Contact her at roz@nicegirlstv.com.
