What to Expect on TV in July

By  |

Summer officially started yesterday; and not only is the weather making it very apparent that it is summer but TV is also making it very apparent. There have been plenty of cable network shows and made-for-TV movies appearing throughout June, but there are still more programming options in July. Let’s take a look at just some of them below:

RETURNING SHOWS

The second season of both Killjoys and Dark Matter will air on Syfy on July 1 and 9 and 10 PM respectively while Suits will be back for a new season on July 13 on the USA Network at 9 PM.

STREAMING SERIES

In the world of streaming, the second season of the Netflix drama Marco Polo will debut online on July 1 while the Netflix drama Stranger Things will debut online on July 15. This 8-episode drama focuses on a young boy who vanishes into thin air and how friends, family, and local police search for answers. The cast includes Winona Ryder, David Harbour (Suicide Squad) and Matthew Modine (Proof).

MADE-FOR-TV MOVIES

It’s Christmas in July when the Hallmark Channel rolls out a lot of past holiday-themed movies in addition to their latest new holiday movie that will debut on July at 9 PM. The movie is called A Perfect Christmas. It will follow a newlywed couple celebrating their first Christmas together. They invite their families to join them for the holidays, but when Steve (Dillon Casey from Nikita and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) is laid off just before Christmas and Cynthia (Susie Abromeit from Marvel’s Jessica Jones) discovers she’s pregnant, they both keep their news secret in hopes that the celebration runs smoothly.

NEW DRAMAS

Two new military-themed dramas will debut in July, including the 8-episode History Channel drama Six, which debuts on July 18 at 10 PM. The series follows Navy SEAL Team Six, the best of the best, whose 2014 mission to eliminate a Taliban leader in Afghanistan goes awry when they uncover a U.S. citizen working as a jihadist fighter with the terrorists. The cast includes Juan Pablo Raba (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Dominic Adams (Devious Maids), Barry Sloane (Revenge), Edwin Hodge (Chicago Fire), Kyle Schmid (Copper), Walter Goggins (Justified), Nadine Velazquez (Major Crimes) and Brianne Davis (Murder in the First).

While the USA Network drama Shooter, based on the best-selling novel by Stephen Hunter and the 2007 box office film, will debut on July 19 at 10 PM. The series follows the courageous Bobbie Lee Swagger, a highly-decorated ex-Marine sniper who is coaxed back into action after he learns about a plot to kill the President. The cast include Ryan Phillippe (Secrets and Lies) [in the lead role], Cynthia Addai-Robinson (Arrow), David Marciano (Homeland and Due South), Omar Epps (House), Shantel VanSanten (The Flash and The Messengers) and Tembi Locke (Eureka).
