THE LAST SHIP: “The Scott Effect” and “Rising Sun” {Preview}

By  |

TNT’s epic post-apocalyptic show The Last Ship returns for it’s third season on Sunday night with two action-packed episodes, establishing where the fate of the US, and the world, is now that the cure has been widely spread to all of the remaining world.

However, even if the cure is more accessible to the rest of the population who survived, the world for the Nathan James is still not as simple as imagined. The ship, with new and old faces aboard, is still working hard to bring the Cure to more and more of the world, even as it seems that other countries are less willing to equally distribute the antidote as the United States was.

Asia’s spread of the antidote is the most complicated so far, and the Nathan James finds itself there trying to continued their old mission. True to the show, that doesn’t go as the crew planned. That tension – and conflict – seem to spur the season into action, giving the show the time to introduce new series regular, Bridget Regan (Jane the Virgin, Marvel’s Agent Carter), who has a complicated relationship with Chandler.

The Nathan James has no easy time in their first mission. Some familiar faces from on the ship have left for solid ground and still more characters – and connections to the crew we’ve come to relate to – are introduced. The world is ever expanding – for good and bad – and the Nathan James will weather those swells as best they can.

For a few peaks into the premiere (and later), TNT released this trailer.

The Last Ship premieres on Sunday at 9PM Eastern for two episodes on TNT.
