iZombie, 211 – Fifty Shades of Grey Matter

By  |

If you weren’t all hot and bothered from this episode of iZombie, you may need your pulse checked.

When a librarian dies from Hemlock poisoning, Liv (Rose McIver) and Babineaux (Malcolm Goodwin) are on the case. In a iZombiefied interpretation of E.L. James’ Fifty Shades of Grey, Liv consumes the librarian’s brains only to discover later that the librarian wrote erotica on the side. Then the kinky adventure commences.

While this episode killed it on so many levels, the best part for me was hearing Kristen Bell’s voice reading from the dirty librarian’s ‘romance’ novel, The Upright Position. Still checking on where this book is available for purchase…

In Liv’s pants

iZombie_LBDLivThese brains have Liv trying and failing to “keep it in her pants.” She caresses Babineaux’s back, then spanks Ravi (Rahul Kohli) in the morgue. Asks Major (Robert Buckley) and Ravi, that if they decide to wrestle, to film it. And fantasizes making out with the hospice nurse while Babineaux questions the dead librarian’s disabled husband.

Then in walks her distraction, Drake (Greg Finley). He visits Liv at the morgue, asking if she can supply him with brains so he’s not under Blaine’s (David Anders) thumb. And for a minute there, you think the real Liv is in control, trying to be cautious and on guard around him, but then her lust-filled brain takes over – she roofies him with the horny librarian brain so she can “know” him better.

Major probably thought taking in the pooch from the zombie he popsicled was a pardon of sorts, but the pup was almost Major’s downfall in this episode. Clearly he and Ravi became attached to the pup, naming it Minor and splurging on trips to the puppy spa. But the fantasy is short lived when a the police discover a GPS tracker linking the dog to the missing rich guy and Major knows that he has to let Minor go. By leaving him on a bus. Major better hope Minor finds a good home.

Aly Michalka returns as Peyton Charles and fairly quickly succumbs to Blaine’s charms. With the assistance of complimentary whiskey, the two go from telling drinking stories to hooking up on the leather couch.

Back at the precinct, Bozzio and Babineaux are connecting the dots, linking Blaine and his aliases to the missing elite, among other crimes. With an outstanding warrant for possession with intent to sell, they are able to bring him in.

During the integration, Peyton rides in on her “white horse” to rescue Blaine. Even though Babineaux and Bozzio try to convince Peyton that he’s no good, she tells them they don’t have enough evidence to keep him. Now Blaine’s back out on the street, but for how long?

It’s not until Liv dishes out the laundry list of Blaine’s horrific deeds, including turning Liv into a zombie, that Peyton realizes the mistake she’s made by sleeping with him and setting him free. In true BFF nature, Liv doesn’t judge her, but comforts her friend.

As she leaves Liv’s apartment, Peyton says “You sleep with some one, you think you know them, but they could be anybody.” Peyton has no idea how these words ring true for Liv, because back in her bedroom, she has Drake laying naked in her bed. I guess they didn’t wait until the horny brain wore off after all.

Oh yeah, [spoiler alert!] it was the husband who offed his wife. The librarian was vicariously living out her sexual fantasies through her writing and the paraplegic husband didn’t want to be remembered as the man who couldn’t pleasure his wife.

Quotes of the night:

“I’m pre-ordering this book, you’re not the only one in a dry spell,” says Peyton as Liv reads her an excerpt from the librarian erotica book.

OR

“I roofied you with horny librarian brain.” Liv says to Drake.
