PSYCH Recap: Juliet Takes A Luvvah

By  |

A stretch of weird family togetherness, an undercover mission, and Gus’s new girlfriend come together in this week’s Psych to propel Shawn to new heights of maturity. How long can this last?

Shawn hovers over Henry as he returns home from the hospital, and Shawn’s mother is there doing the same. Shawn uses Henry’s recovery as an excuse not to move in with Juliet, claiming his father needs him now. Juliet says she’s okay with it, but it’s kind of obvious she was hoping Shawn would move in with her.

Gus has resorted to online dating…and so, apparently, has Juliet. Gus finds her profile on a dating site while he’s bragging to Shawn about his match with a beautiful woman named Rachael. Much as Shawn seems against Gus finding dates online, he has even more issue with Juliet doing it.

Shawn crashes Juliet’s date and causes a scene, especially when she refers to him as her ex-boyfriend. He’s oblivious to what is really happening because he’s consumed with jealousy. When McNabb intervenes, Shawn realizes Juliet is working under cover and he tries to fix the mess he’s made. He removes himself from the situation, hurrying to the kitchen where he finds a very irritated Lassiter waiting for him.

It turns out there is a serial killer afoot, and the one link between the beautiful victims is that they all belonged to the same online dating service. Shawn manages to convince the Chief that his special skills are needed on this case, making it easy for him to keep an eye on Juliet while she’s dating the men known to have dated the murder victims.

Shawn next crashes Gus’s date, and tries his best to get rid of Gus’ online girlfriend, Rachael. He’s almost as jealous of Gus as he is of Juliet. Shawn has met his match in this one, however. This girl isn’t going to be scared away easily and she can hold her own.

Shawn sits in the surveillance van with Lassie, listening to Juliet on a date. When they hear Juliet say her safe phrase, indicating she’s in danger, they rush to her aid only to discover that the guy was just giving her a gift. He has creepy presentation, but he’s not a killer. Shawn manages to cover and avoid detection by initiating a cuddling session with Lassiter, pretending to be a couple.

Shawn returns home to his parents, realizing he’s a 30-something guy living with his parents. They have a family moment, sitting on the sofa watching television. His mom tells him she did his laundry. It’s a slippery slope Shawn is on.

The department has called in an FBI expert to help with the case. He is retooling Juliet’s profile to make her more interesting….he doesn’t think she wants to be attracting 30-somethings who live with their parents. It hits Shawn close to home.

Something Juliet says plants the idea in Shawn’s mind that maybe the killer isn’t one of the men. Maybe it’s a woman who is interested in one of the men, killing off her competition. He goes to the expert for help, and learns that there is one woman who tried very hard to get a date with one of the men. So much that she seems really creepy. Shawn wants to see what this woman looks like, and of course it’s Gus’ new girlfriend. He crashes another of their dates and accuses her of being a killer. Gus appears he’s ready to become a killer himself, Shawn is ruining things with the new love of his life. Rachael can not only go toe to toe with Shawn on movie references, but she has an alibi. News that Juliet now has a date with the hard to entice “Mr. Possibilities” breaks Shawn’s will to ruin things between Gus and Rachael. He rushes home to talk to his parents about his relationship worries, and walks in on them in bed. It’s a moment that is likely to scar poor Shawn for life. Henry tries to have a fatherly talk with Shawn, and Shawn tries to wish himself away to anywhere else. As he avoids eye contact with Henry, he notices a photo of a male model in a magazine and recognizes him as “Mr. Possibilities”. The photos on the dating site have been photoshopped.

Gus and Shawn stake out Mr. Possibilities’ house, his real name is Ken Dowling. He’s married and has kids, and his wife doesn’t take news of her husband having an affair well at all. Shawn thinks the two young women found out the truth about him and he killed them to keep them quiet. Shawn calls McNabb to pick Dowling up, and then calls Juliet with the good news that the case is solved and she doesn’t have to go out with Mr. Possibilities. He’s troubled that she sounds disappointed. The expert calls Shawn and tells him that Mr. Possibilities just sent an email, which Shawn knows wouldn’t be possible because he’s in custody. That means someone else is Mr. Possibilities, the case isn‘t solved after all, and Juliet could be in danger. Elsewhere, Juliet is approached by Mike, the first of the dating site men she went out with.

Shawn and Lassiter are on their way to the park where Juliet was supposed to meet Mr. Possibilities. Meanwhile, Juliet is being held at gunpoint,  listening to Mike spill his issues with women.  They always say they want a nice guy, but what they really want is Mr. Possibilities type. She was relentless in her pursuit of Mr. Possibilities, and he seems bent on making her pay. Juliet thinks quickly on her feet and tells him she really liked him, but she didn’t think he would really be interested in her. She asks to take off his glasses, and he foolishly lets her get close enough to do so. Juliet takes him down and wrestles the gun away from him. Shawn arrives just a moment too late to save her, she already saved herself.

After backup arrives to take Mike into custody, Shawn and Juliet have a serious talk. He thinks it’s time they move in together, his home should be wherever she (and the dogs they are going to get) are. Besides, he can’t ever go back to Henry’s house after the things he saw there. Juliet understands, and they seal their new arrangement with a kiss.

Next, Shawn makes nice with Gus and Rachael, and promises not to accuse her of being a killer again. He leaves them alone while he goes to find snacks to celebrate, and Rachael reveals something to Gus…she has a son.

Psych airs Wednesday nights at 10/9c on USA.
