SCANDAL Recap: Blown Away

By  |

Let’s get right into it shall we, because VP Langston sure doesn’t waste any time. She gets herself on TV and makes it sound like the President is at deaths door and there is no hope for him. She is a cold woman.

At Pope & Assoc. the team is asleep in various places around the office when Huck arrives and wakes Harrison up saying he is the one that everyone is looking for.

Olivia is over at the White House when Harrison calls her. Harrison asks her to get back to the office, and right now, she says she can’t she is busy and to just handle it. Well Harrison isn’t going to handle this and he isn’t really asking her anyway. He finally has enough and in his big boy voice yells, “Get your ass back here now!” and hangs up. Olivia decides it must be serious and heads for the office.

She listens to Huck’s story; Becky called him distraught and crying. He showed up at the hotel to find no Becky. What he does find is a remote control gun firing at the President. Huck does what he thinks is the right thing, packs up the rifle and takes off. He thinks the gun will help him find whoever took Becky.

The team does what they do best; start running down Becky’s information in hopes of finding her. Olivia asks the obvious question…are you sure she wasn’t just setting you up. Huck says he is sure. Absolutely sure.
Quinnsay takes this opportunity to take a few jabs at Huck, something I find completely unacceptable. Olivia shuts her down but I’m not amused. I spend most of my recaps gushing about Olivia and Fitz so I don’t say this enough but I want to hug Huck. Watching him try to be a good person and live up to who Olivia knows he can be every week is so sad and sweet it just tugs at my heart. Guillermo Diaz plays a tortured soul very well.

Stepping off my soap box and back to the show.

Olivia makes Huck stay in the office, as he is the most wanted person in America. Ironically the next thing we see is Olivia briefing the media on the shooter/person of interest.

Cyrus is watching the briefing from his house, in his pajamas. VP Langston kicked him out of his office and he isn’t going to take a different office, he is going to stay home until Fitz is back.
His Mother-In –Law calls and Cyrus finds out James didn’t come up and visit his parents last weekend. Since that is the lie James told Cyrus when he was really out tracking down the Defiance scandal Cyrus is confused and curious.

Hollis is doing his back handed dealings, this time with VP Langston. I know she is President Langston but I’m not going to call her that. He pushes an envelope at her and says she may want to pay a visit to Verna.

In the office Quinnsay tells Huck it looks like they are both patsy’s, her for Cytron and Huck for the Presidents shooting. She wonders if they are related, she slipped through their fingers and Huck was the one that “saved” her so now they are going after him. Quinnsay then goes off on her own little self-righteous tangent but Huck doesn’t care. He just wants to find Becky.

Abby calls in a favor from David and gets the security footage from the hotel for the last 72 hours. She’s appreciative and he just looks sad. Neither of them say anything though; they just look at each other.
Harrison and Quinnsay find that Becky has only been Becky for the last three months, the same amount of time she has been dating Huck.
Abby shows them the security footage of Becky checking in on her own accord with the rifle. The team brings this to Huck; he doesn’t want to believe them. He leaves the office to find her himself.

Huck searches Becky’s apartment and finds a secret room behind the pantry. It is filled with surveillance on Huck and the plans for the shooting of the President.

At the hospital the VP pays Verna a visit. The VP asks her to step down; it’s not so much a request though. If Verna doesn’t she will leak that Verna has terminal cancer and the drugs she is on could have clouded her judgment. The VP will ruin and disgrace her.

The VP, Olivia and others are being shown the video footage of Huck at the hotel in a briefing. You can’t see his face in any of the cameras though. Olivia calls Abby only to find out Huck is missing.

Huck is on the street watching his perfect family, the family he took Becky to watch on their first date. He falls asleep in the car and wakes up to Becky in his back seat with a gun to his head.
She admits she set him up but won’t tell him who hired her. Becky says she was supposed to set him up better than she did but she can’t because she likes him, really likes him. She wants him to come with her, on the run. A real Bonnie and Clyde for hire.

Olivia is at home when Cyrus stops by with a very nice bottle of wine. He says his young handsome slutty husband is cheating on him. Olivia can’t believe he didn’t even ask James for an explanation and she is sure he isn’t cheating on Cyrus. I do love when Olivia and Cyrus are being friends. Cyrus says he hired a PI to see if James is cheating or not.
Olivia opens up that the VP has her planning Fitz’s funeral and after visiting him once Mellie had her privileges revoked. She might not even get to say goodbye. Cyrus says Fitzgerald Thomas Grant III is not going to die. Fitz calls Olivia the love of her life; she cannot give up on him.

The next morning Verna tells Olivia about the VP’s threats. She is livid. Olivia says the only way to preserve her legacy is to step down. Verna is not happy about that. She goes a step further and says the pictures of the gunman sure do look a lot like Huck. Olivia has no response.

Huck is waiting for Becky when she gets home. He has all of the surveillance out on the floor in front of him. He pulls her down to the floor with him and they have sex on the pictures. When they are done he says he loves her and will go with her. However when he asks what her real name is, and she won’t tell him, he frowns for a second. Huck says he has to grab some stuff and will meet her in an hour.

Cyrus meets with his PI which is actually Charlie. I’m telling you I forget Cyrus had a woman murdered in the first season. Shonda Rhimes writes characters you should hate but can’t help but like.
Anyway, Charlie says James isn’t cheating, he has been contacting David Rosen and he visited Defiance, OH. This understandably sets Cyrus off, he jumps in his car and speeds away.

Olivia gets a call from Huck, she meets him outside the White House. He says he promised he would say goodbye. Olivia can’t believe Becky got to him. After some heated words he leaves.

What Olivia said must have resonated with Huck a little because he calls Harrison. He tells Harrison that when Becky meets Huck he needs to go into her apartment and find the gun.

That night Cyrus is setting up a nice candle light dinner for James. When James gets home he tells him he pulled some strings and got them a baby. They can have her home with them in a week, all James has to do is say yes and quit his job. James agrees wholeheartedly. I hope Cyrus doesn’t think this will keep James from investigating Defiance.

Outside the perfect families house Huck is waiting for Becky. He doesn’t notice the family moving around the house though and when he calls Becky’s cell he finds out it has been disconnected.
He goes into the perfect family’s house and discovers them all dead. Oh, I really hope Becky gets hers. This is just uncalled for. A recording of the call Huck made to Harrison is playing on a loop via tape recorder.

In the Oval Office Olivia is showing the VP the funeral plans for Fitz pending Mellie’s approval. As she is leaving the office she runs into Hollis. She accuses him of turning on Verna. He says turnabout is fair play and they turned on him first when they saved Quinnsay behind his back.

James is at a baby store talking to David. He admits to David that Cyrus must know he found out about Defiance because otherwise he wouldn’t have offered him a baby. He even gives David the memory card from the voting machine.

When David gets home Abby is in his apartment. She doesn’t say anything though, she slaps him a few times. David being a truly good guy just takes it. She does some other odd things I don’t want to type while breathing heavily and ends up taking David on the floor. When she is done she gets up, pulls her skirt down and leaves crying.

Verna shows up at the VP’s office with two envelopes, she has the name of the man in the red hoodie and her resignation letter. Which one does she want? “One pill makes you larger. One pill makes you small.”

Harrison calls Olivia, Huck is at the office. He is crying and rocking back and forth. Quinnsay wants to know why they just don’t call the FBI to look for Becky. Harrison has a point when he says, “It took them two years to find you and you weren’t a super spy.”
Quinnsay goes to leave as the FBI storms the office. They take Huck into custody under the Patriot Act, looks like the VP picked an envelope.

And that ladies and gentlemen is the mid-season finale. What did you think?
