Women Behind the Scenes Spotlight: Stacy Rukeyser

By  |

Today’s Women Behind the Scenes spotlight is shone on producer, writer and showrunner Stacy Rukeyser.

A graduate of Princeton, Stacy got her start in the entertainment business with bit acting parts in episodes of the TV shows Murder One and Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman in the late 90’s.

It was in 2002 that she was a writer for the CBS drama Without a Trace and then two years later she worked as a writer for the 2004 pilot Fearless that was never picked up. Not that long after that, Stacy landed a job as a writer and story editor for the TV series One Tree Hill where she worked for two seasons.

In 2006, she worked as a writer and executive story editor for the short-lived FOX drama Standoff; and then the following season she worked as a writer and co-producer on the fan favorite series October Road.

The very next season, Stacy worked as a writer and producer on Crash, the TV adaptation of the critically acclaimed film. In 2010, she then worked as a writer and co-executive producer on the short-lived Nickelodeon series Gigantic.

Over the last two TV seasons, she has worked on the popular ABC Family drama Greek as a writer and co-executive producer. And, most recently she has worked as a co-executive producer and writer on another ABC Family drama: The Lying Game, which will be back for its second season started on January 8.

She and her husband Clark Peterson, a film and television producer, are working on the upcoming 2013 movie Devil’s Knot, which will focus on the savage and brutal murders of three young children and the trial that followed where three teenagers were charged with having committed the murders as part of a Satanic ritual. The cast of this film will include Reese Witherspoon, Colin Firth, Mireille Enos (The Killing) and Stephen Moyer (True Blood).

She and her husband have produced more than 28 features, including the box office film Monster and 80 TV episodes together.

Stacy is the mother of young Truman Peterson and can be followed at Twitter @littleruke and at Facebook.

Using her favorite online handle, Rueben is an East Coast-bred gal who is now a permanent Californian and a lifelong tv-oholic. She watches at least 25 TV shows a week, goes to the movies as often as possible, listens to music every waking moment, reads every day and “plays” on the internet every chance she can. Some of her current favorite TV shows are Outlander, Sweet Magnolias, Wednesday, The Mandalorian, The Equalizer, Fire Country, Miss Scarlet, Hudson & Rex, SkyMed, The Rookie, Cobra Kai, Virgin River, The Witcher, Leverage: Redemption and School Spirits. She is looking forward to the long-awaited return of Bridgerton, is curious about the debut of Orphan Black: Echoes and the 3rd and final season of Sweet Tooth coming in June, and the season finales of the abbreviated 2023-2024 TV season.
