Nice Boy of the Week: Sterling K. Brown
Fresh off his Golden Globe win for Best Actor in a Drama TV and in honor of THIS IS US‘s winter return tonight, we’re dubbing star Sterling K. Brown our Nice Boy of the Week. (We actually had him planned as this week’s Nice Boy for quite some time now so it’s a happy coincidence that our pick has coincided with his win!)
Week after week Brown has us laughing and then crying over his portrayal of adorkable father and son, Randall Pearson, a role that earned him a historic Golden Globe win for Best Actor in a Drama TV this past weekend, as well as winner of the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series at last year’s Primetime Emmy Awards. In 2016, he also won the Emmy for Outstanding Support Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for his role as Christopher Darden in THE PEOPLE V. O.J. SIMPSON: AMERICAN CRIME STORY. Prior to these two roles that have catapulted him into the spotlight, Brown starred in shows such as Third Watch, Person of Interest, Army Wives, as well as guest star appearances on Supernatural, Insecure, Criminal Minds, NCIS, and Alias just to name a few. He also starred in the 2017 film Marshall and can be seen in the upcoming Marvel movie Black Panther.
Sterling Kelby Brown was born in St Louis, Missouri and as a child he went by his middle name. His father, Sterling Brown Jnr, sadly passed away when Brown was 10 and so when he was a teen, he then started going by Sterling to honor his late father. If that wasn’t enough to make you go “Aww!”, he also says that he tends to connect with father-son stories – the movie In Good Company made him bawl the first time he saw it. Other things that make us aww about our latest Nice Guy pick (well apart from his sensitive portrayal of Randall Pearson of course) is that Brown is married to his college sweetheart and has two young sons that he says he loves with the strength of 1000 suns. <3 (Okay please pass the tissues now…)
We’re not the only ones picking Brown as our Nice Boy of the Week either. When we spoke to fellow NBC star, Marlyne Barrett from CHICAGO MED late last year, she also nominated Brown as her pick:
“Sterling K. Brown, is an incredible mirror to the human condition in THIS IS US. I love the simplicity in his acting and though his character is different from who he portrays in social media and interviews, it’s still an extension of hope of who he would be. There’s a genuine nature in all his work and a depth available in his performances. He’s a great mirror to all manhood.”
