Blindspot Roundtable: “Enemy Bag of Tricks”

By  |

Friday night’s new episode of the third season of Blindspot found the team attempting to solve one of the tattoos on Jane’s body for which Weller was directed toward by her brother Roman – although the rest of the team doesn’t know that! – and one that led to a downed satellite and a turncoat agent working with the North Koreans.

The official synopsis of the episode entitled “Enemy Bag of Tricks” is as follows:

As the team adjusts to their new dynamic — and the new tattoos — they battle a dangerous foreign power that is trying to hijack a satellite.

Please join Cay, Roz and Rueben as they talk about the episode:

At the end of last week’s episode, we learned that each member of the team was keeping a secret; but thankfully Jane revealed her secret to Weller (the money in the vent in their apartment was from her time working K&R). Do you think the other team members will come clean anytime soon?

Cay: I feel like Patterson will be the first to come clean because she has not been acting herself and others are noticing and Stuart’s death may push her to finally explain the situation out of guilt. I’m assuming her secret involves Rich.Dotcom, but maybe she has 2? I’m betting Zapata will be the last as her secrets from the first season never really came out. Kurt is the one who really needs to spill, and quickly. Keeping Jane in the dark will only make things worse. What exactly does Roman have to hold over him?

Roz: I’m with Cay on who is the next to come clean because she was all over the place emotionally this week. I don’t know if her secret is Rich or something else with her app, but she was nervous and demanding all the time. But I feel like Reade’s girlfriend was a big drop for him.

Rueben: Agreed, Patterson won’t be able to keep her mouth shut for much longer especially in light of Stuart. Her secret, at least to me, obviously has to do with Rich.Dotcom – given how they acted toward each other in the season premiere – but now you both make me wonder if it has to also do with her app. I was pretty surprised by the revelation of Reade’s girlfriend Megan.

NOTE: Watchful fans will recognize Reade’s girlfriend Megan as actress Reshma Shetty from the USA Network long-running series Royal Pains.

Was it obvious to you that Roman was up to something nefarious by being in Australia and targeting that support group guy named Tom? It appears he is going to take over Tom’s life, including getting all of his money. What do you think he is gonna do with the money?

Cay: Oh yeah, I was on him from the beginning. I actually tweeted asking Luke Mitchell (Roman) whether he was sincere or scheming (assuming the latter) and he answered “both.” I do believe that Roman kind of liked having a “friend,” but anyone who gets in his way is disposable.

Roz: Whatever he has planned for that money won’t be good for the team. He really does have so many issues that can’t or won’t be addressed.

Rueben: I agree with Cay. As soon as they showed him in Australia, my radar went on active alert. And then when I recognized the actor playing Tom (actor Daniel Lissing from the Hallmark Channel series When Calls the Heart), I knew it wasn’t going to end well at all. My bigger concern is what he plans to do as the “new” Tom and especially what he is going to do with that money. He won’t be up to any good with it for sure, Roz!

What do you think about the dynamics between Patterson and Stuart as well as Weller and Reade throughout the episode?

Cay: As I said, Patterson is being obnoxious and I expect we will find out why now that Stuart is dead. The Weller-Reade (issue) doesn’t surprise me at all – they have had a role reversal and that will take a while to work through. Weller isn’t exactly good at taking orders from anyone.

Roz: Two years is a long time to unlearn how to socialize with some people but I think the whole team needs some time off a case to readjust.

Rueben: Yep, I agree with you both. Being apart for two years has changed them all. Patterson really was obnoxious – especially toward Stuart – and even though Weller actually called Reade “boss” one time, he still doesn’t know how to be the second in command or take orders all that well. It’s going to take a while for them to get back into the swing of things.

Speaking of Stuart, how shocking was that last scene? Were you expecting that outcome at all?

Cay: Killing a character doesn’t surprise me on this show, but I’m very curious to find out the “why.” My gut instinct is that his death is not related to Roman or the tattoos. Once again Patterson has a trauma, because she’s going to feel very guilty.

Roz: I wasn’t expecting it at all and I’m with Cay; we need a why sooner rather than later.

Rueben: As soon as they showed his door ajar, I knew it wasn’t going to be a good outcome for Stuart, but a small part of me was hoping that he was (or maybe is) just on the cusp of death and that somehow he could be saved. I doubt that is going to happen. I kind of have a feeling that Stuart hit a nerve [not sure with who, though] with that tattoo that he kept obsessing over, but besides Roman who would care about her tattoos so…I’m a little perplexed.

Do you have a favorite scene or line?

Cay: I was intrigued by how Roman manipulated Tom.

Roz: Not really a scene but when the group was ribbing Patterson about her app.

Rueben: I liked the line from Dwyer when he asked Reade: “Do I look like a nerd?” I got a chuckle out of that.
