THE GOLDBERGS: The ‘Risky Business’ of Adam’s Changing Voice

By  |

The Goldbergs returned this week with a tribute to “Risky Business”. Lainey’s father is away on business for a while and he left her boatloads of pizza money and two rules: no driving the Porsche and no parties. Of course, she does drive the Porsche and it does end up falling into the lake, and there is a party that gets wildly out of hand until Mom Goldberg shows up to clear the house and make everything right again.

Barry and Erica are horrified when Bev’s smothering overpowers Lainey, and they try to warn her and break her out of Bev’s clutches. Lainey, however, is happy being Bev’s favorite second daughter, until she starts to insist that Lainey is going to college.

Meanwhile, Adam is dealing with his long-distance love affair with Dana. It’s all going fine until Murray puts a stop to the phone calls and tells Adam he must break up with Dana because long-distance romances never work out anyway. After cobbling together an awful music video for Dana, Adam concedes and prepares his breakup letter. Pops saves the day, though, when he reminds Murray of the long-distance relationship he had with Bev before they were married.

Through all of this, Adam’s voice is changing and instead of hiding the fact that the young actor is growing up, they’ve made it part of the show and that’s why I love it.

The songs of the week were “Toy Soldiers” by Martika and “Old Time Rock & Roll” by Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band.
