MODERN FAMILY RECAP: THE HELP

Modern Family does a great job of consistently making us laugh every week. This episode was another great one with Guest Stars galore! I absolutely love Nathan Lane as Pepper and he returned to help Mitch and Cam plan their wedding. Let’s get to it!

Gloria didn’t like any of her previous Nanny’s because she wanted to be the queen of the house. So when she spotted Andy (Adam Devine)on the playground playing with the kids, she thought he would be a great “Manny” (male nanny). She hired him and when she introduced him to Jay and Manny as the new “Manny” Manny said, “Am I being replaced?” She explained that he was the new male nanny and they did not approve. They took a vote and Jay and Manny voted that he wouldn’t work there.

Cam and Mitch are starting to plan their wedding and Pepper (Nathan Lane) comes to help them along with his assistant Ronaldo. When Pepper suggested that they arrive down a purple aisle riding a unicorn, Mitch and Cam knew they did not want him planning their wedding. It was too over the top, even for Cam! Ronaldo confided in them that Pepper has done so many Gay weddings, he is out of ideas. He started sharing his thoughts about Mitch and Cam’s wedding and they loved his ideas. They wanted to hire Ronaldo as their wedding planner, but they knew Pepper would be upset.

Phil’s father Frank (Fred Willard) visits and Phil wanted to cheer him up because he recently broke up with his girlfriend. Claire thought he needed to see a therapist, but Jay said he just needed a guy’s night out. So Phil, Jay and Frank went to a bar, and Frank met a nice woman (whose friend was rude to Jay and he said “I’m a catch”).

The next morning in the kitchen Frank looked like he had some fun. Phil asked how it went and he told him that he met someone else while waiting to get the car, and that she was in the basement. Whoa! There was just one problem. She wanted her fee of $500 before she left. He accidentally picked up a hooker and didn’t know it! Hilarious! Phil started to panic because he wanted her gone before Claire got home.

Gloria hired Andy as the “Manny” against Jay and Manny’s wishes. Jay just thinks it is too weird having a man as the nanny. Well that changed when Andy showed Gloria how to calm down and appreciate Jay and Manny’s feelings. Gloria apologized for not taking their feelings to heart and promised not to yell so much. Jay couldn’t believe it and said “You’re hired!” to Andy without question.

Pepper found out that Mitch and Cam gave Ronaldo the idea that he could plan a wedding without him was upset. Ronaldo told him that he has good ideas too but Pepper doesn’t listen. They talked it out and Cam and Mitch realized that Ronaldo was in love with Pepper. They pointed it out to Pepper and he didn’t think Ronaldo was attracted to him. Ronaldo admitted that he loved him and all was well (they were so cute together).

Claire came home and found the hooker in her kitchen and thought she was a therapist. Claire told her that she always thought she would be good at what she does since she practically does it with everyone in the neighborhood; at least if she was a professional she would be paid for it! HA! Phil immediately said she wouldn’t be good at it. She figured out the woman was a hooker and was shocked. Frank admitted that he wasn’t dumped, but he broke up with his girlfriend because he was afraid of being intimate with a woman other than his late wife. The hooker overheard him and told him he was wonderful and had nothing to worry about. She said if he loved her, he should go get her. He thanked her and seemed to have more confidence. The night with the hooker paid off for Frank after all.
