The Run upto the Upfronts

By  |

This week has finally come–the week where all of our shows are either doomed to the status of past favorite, kept on the shelf as a must see or we slowly fine that new show that will be the next big thing.

Of course, just as the networks have been preparing for the presentations, fans have been rallying support in the effort of saving their show or hyping up another to insure a spot on Network TV in the fall.

Much as I love my shows, I tend to have a very blase attitude about Upfronts and the fate of what I love to watch. Maybe it makes me an odd duck as a fan, but the new(ish) obsession with keeping a show frustrates me more than anything. I don’t want to discount anyone who’s done their part to keep something on the air (trust me, I appreciate it), but more often than not, the campaigns just drown out what I love about the show: the characters and the situations they find themselves written into each week.

As I finally get to seeing the final decisions by the networks, I’m just ready for summer to come, leaving me time to peacefully enjoy some shows, rewatching old favorites and maybe picking up a new show along the way.

Call me a bad fan for not being as invested, but I’m happier to watch my shows and not worry if I’ll have another season of stories when that bridge is crossed. Each year, trying to keep up with the latest has taken its toll on me already.

Roz lives in the Los Angeles area, and has been a long time California girl. Despite her better judgment, she enjoys shows about the shallow sides of her home city, but will also find time to watch iZombie, Jane the Virgin, and much more. With a love of history, she also watches anything that is grounded in real life, including Victoria and black-ish. Having worked with children, she also follows shows she knows they watch (reminding her of those days of yore for her in the process). Contact her at roz@nicegirlstv.com.
