Continuing with our fairy tales in modern television series, I couldn’t help but see a similarity between True Blood‘s Sookie Stackhouse and “Goldilocks and the Three Bears”. Sookie, of course, represents Goldilocks, but let’s take a look at the ‘three bears’.
There are a couple variations of the story, with the three bears representing a family made up of Father, Mother and Baby. The original version, however, tells of three male bears that just live together as friends in a little cottage in the woods. This is the one with which I will make my comparison.
The first, or largest bear, can be seen as Eric Northman. Not only is he very large in stature, his personality and self-image is huge. He’s also much too self-centered for Sookie. While he is a fan favorite, I don’t think he is a right fit for our Goldilocks.
The second bear, the medium-size one, would be Alcide Herveaux. In this case, I’m mostly referring to his character and not his size. Alcide is acting as Sookie’s protector at the moment, however he too has his own agenda. Sookie, with her telepathic ability, could be a great asset to him should a pack war arise. While he appears to genuinely care for her, he’s still not quite right for her.
The third and final bear might be Bill Compton. He’s smaller in stature than the other two ‘bears’ and his love for Sookie is real and returned by her. Many would agree that Bill is “just right”.
My own personal view is that none of the above are a perfect match for our heroine. I’d rather take a closer look at Sam Merlotte. Sam has always been there for Sookie, no matter the situation. Whether she needed someone to just talk with or to help her out of a potentially problematic situation, Sam’s the man. Like the cute dog he shifts into, many times, his love for her is unconditional. If only she’d stop and take a good, long look.

Poor Sookie…three gorgeous “bears” who want her, and one gorgeous “dog” who’d leap at the chance.
Would I trade places with her? Ha, just ask me!

Big bear please! I think only a small few would agree that Bill is “just right”. This list starts with the best (Eric) and gets increasingly more blah with each new option.
Well, count me amongst the “small few” who love Bill and think he’s just right for Sookie. And I have lots of friends who feel the same.
Just praise the character you like. No need to be insulting and refer to the others as “blah”.
Well, Becky you are a indeed a “small few”, of all the people I know, only one even likes Bill let alone thinks he is “just right” for Sookie. I gunna go with Tiffany on this one and back her up on the “blah” Bill is painfully dull and that is not Eric’s fault or the fault of an Eric fan. And I’m not being insulting, just stating a fact.
Well, I side with Becky, and I am not part of a few, but a many.
I am a huge Bill fan and I know so very very many Bill fans. And yes you are insulting by insinuating that there are not many of us only because you only know one. In my circle of friends there are no Eric fans.
We may not be loud or obnoxious, nor vote on polls, but make no mistake, we are out there.

Bill is a wonderful multilayered tragic hero. Sadly, some may not have the desire nor the capacity to understand him, so less rich are they.
I take solace in knowing that Bill is the lead male character, as well as Alan Balls own words that Bill and Sookie are soulmates.
As far as I am concerned, Bills stature may be smaller but his heart and soul is so much bigger than the other two combined.

I’m a part of the so called “small few” and am a true Bill lover from the books and show. I hate to tell you but there are a lot more Bill lovers out there than you seem to think., in my experience they’re just not as vocal.
I am also part of the “few” you talk about. I am part of “many” and hardly know of anyone who is an Eric shipper. Also, we are not old maids but vary from 17 onwards. We love Bill from the books and the show and thing Bill and Sookie are “just right’ together. Mark my words – Bill and Sookie may part for a while, but when Eric and Sookie ‘do it” it will only be fornication and not making love, like Bill and Sookie do. They will come back together, just you wait and see!
I think that Eric has a nice patch to him really i do! he is hot uhmmm strong? he could protect Sookie but i also love Bill as well but the werewolf is a no no for me 🙂 <3

I am also a Bill lover and it is my opinion that we Bill Lovers are not vocal or go on polls etc . We have our own websites and just prefer to bath in his love.
Also, hasn’t Bill had the best storyline line in TB? He is the most complex character and AB has shown many facets of him! He must be a joy to write about! Good, bad, evil – Bill has it all! Just because he does not wear a ‘wife beater’ does not make him unsexy!
Bill is the best hands down. I love that sexy southern hero.
He loves, protects and sacrifices all in the name of love.
