Spotlight: Women in Media
A recent article was published at Variety about the trio behind the almost four-year-old venture Sister Pictures, and that made me want to do a quick spotlight on these powerful women in media.
Helmed by veteran British producer Jane Featherstone – who has worked on shows like the original British version and the U.S. adaptation of Life on Mars, the original British version of Broadchurch, MI-5 (otherwise known as Spooks), the drama The Hour and the mini-series Chernobyl; Shine Group founder Elisabeth Murdoch – who has served as Executive Producer on the long-running MasterChef franchise and former chairman and CEO of Twentieth Century Fox Stacey Snider, who has also served as Executive Producer on the drama Under the Dome.
Sister Pictures is an independent, international studio that is Variety’s 2023 International Achievement in Television Award winner and will be honored at this year’s MIPTV event, the three day conference held in Cannes that provides a global meeting place for four key TV communities: documentaries, formats, drama and kids.
Sister banks itself on experience, independence and a global view of the content marketplace to build their studio venture.
The company’s latest production is the new Amazon drama series The Power, a global thriller that is based on the award-winning novel by Naomi Alderman. The story is set in a world in which teenage girls develop the power to electrocute people. Among its cast are Moana lead Auli’l Cravalho, Toni Collette, John Leguizamo, Josh Charles and Eddie Marsan.
They also have projects set up at Netflix, including Kaos, a genre-bending series that puts a modern twist of Greek and Roman mythology that includes among its cast Cliff Curtis, Jeff Goldblum, David Thewlis, Billie Piper, Aurora Perrineau and Janet McTeer; and the comedy feature film Good Grief that will star and be directed by Dan Levy. The film is a cautionary tale about friendship and loss that includes among its cast Ruth Negga, Luke Evans and Himesh Patel.
Congrats to Sister Pictures!
