Enter the Magical World of Smeerensburg in the Netflix Animated Film Klaus
Netflix will debut its very first animated film Klaus tonight, November 15. This wacky, innovative 2D Santa origin story for Sergio Pablos, co-creator from Despicable Me is also the streaming service’s first attempt in the Best Animated Feature Oscar race.
When Jesper (voiced by Jason Schwartzman) distinguishes himself as the postal academy’s worst student, he is stationed on a frozen island known as Smeerensburg, located above the Arctic Circle, where the feuding locals hardly exchange words let alone letters. Jesper is about to give up when he finds an ally in local teacher Alva (voiced by Rashida Jones), and discovers Klaus (voiced by Oscar® winner J.K. Simmons), a mysterious carpenter who lives alone in a cabin full of handmade toys. These unlikely friendships return laughter to the town, forging a new legacy of generous neighbors, magical lore and stockings hung by the chimney with care.
Other voices will be provided by Norm Macdonald, Will Sasso, Neda Magrethe Labba, Sergio Pablos and Joan Cusack.
