A Million Little Things: Austin

By  |

We got another new episode of A Million Little Things this week. Here is the official synopsis for season two, episode 5: Austin

Delilah makes arrangements for a family photo shoot with longtime photographer Seymour, but Danny struggles to accept that this new family does not include his father. Meanwhile, Rome and Regina make big plans to celebrate Rome’s parents’ 50th wedding anniversary and are forced to take a closer look at their own marital woes; Eddie and Katherine look for a fresh start; and Gary feels disconnected from Maggie.

Nice Girls Cay and Rueben share their thoughts:

Rueben: I’m getting more and more worried about Gary and Maggie. I think they are clearly still in love, but I think Maggie has a new lease on life and that is making her value her time more than before, but I have to wonder if she’s gonna start growing apart from Gary. And, as much as I adore Jason Ritter, I’m worried about Eric’s inclusion in her life, especially given that Maggie was so upset with her mom for having Eric in her life.

It was fun seeing Eddie and Katherine pretend to be a couple from Austin to look at the house across the street from their house, giving her a chance to be somewhere other than Boston where everyone knows everything about their current situation (keeping the secret of baby Charlie). I just have to wonder how long the secret can be kept, and whether she and Eddie can get to a new normal in their relationship.

I loved that the whole entire “clan” go in on the picture (even Gary’s dog) rather than just the immediate family since that seemed to really bother little Danny. I felt bad for him not wanting to have the family picture without his dad Jon. It was so typical of siblings to argue over that whole situation too; but even more poignant given the circumstances.

How much did you love seeing Maggie playing that keyboard and singing. I loved her song choice too, and it was a great little twist that she was doing that alone at her old apartment and not at the piano bar; but it was clear by the look on Gary’s face that he didn’t like that Eric was there when Gary was expecting to see Maggie there too. This just goes back to my first comments about my worry about their relationship.

Lastly, I want to see Regina and Rome find a way for them both to be happy (he wants a baby, but she doesn’t) BUT I don’t see how they could come up with a compromise that allows them both to be happy. It’s not an easy life choice to find a reasonable compromise. And, how sweet was that apology by Rome’s dad to his Rome’s mom. At the very least I hope they go on that cruise and have a good time, and not end up fighting more.

Cay:

How did Rome think that commercial was not going to be an issue with Regina? How could he be so clueless? I agree, not sure what the “compromise” is between having kids and not having kids. I think best case scenario is she agrees for him and then is on board once they get in the thick of it. Or maybe they could be foster parents?

If I were Katherine and Eddie, I think I’d have at least gone across town, not just across the street! And getting it on in a closet of an open house? Ballsy, for sure, but that may be what made it so appealing for both of them. It just doesn’t seem like the ideal way to deal with everyone knowing their business!

Agreed with you on siblings – my sister and I often fight about important/emotional things like that because we have different perspectives/ways of coping. The group photo was a nice compromise, and allows Eddie to be in the picture without suspicion. The photographer was annoying though – why would they keep coming back to that guy?

Definitely quite the fake out with Maggie playing at home instead of at the open mic night. I hope that Gary went home and found her. I hope that she’ll find some peace with the loss of her brother and her cancer. I really want them to be happy!
