JETT: Thoughts on Episode 4 “Frank Sweeney”

Jett brought us more backstory while moving the story in the present along. See what we thought below.

Jett tracks down Frank Sweeney, a brutal gangster she and Blair worked for ten years earlier.

Bennie
I’m 100% in love with this character. He is the perfect combination of polite and protective. Charlie has absolute faith in Bennie to get things done. As is evident in the restaurant scene. Charlie doesn’t even pause putting pasta from his plate to his mouth while a guy is coming at him with a gun. He calmly has his gun under the table, of course, but Bennie gets up and handles the guy before Charlie has to do anything.

Junior
Know who I’m not in love with? Junior. My notes from watching the episode say, “Junior isn’t as hard as he things he is. His crazy eyed, sharp toothed grin is nothing but obnoxious. It definitely doesn’t scare a real badass.” Gentry White however is killing it as Junior. When I love to hate a character that is a combination of phenomenal writing and acting.

Side note: Poor Bobby. Nothing good can come from dating Junior. That poor little naive boy.

Cop Couple
Blowing your married partner in the front seat of your work vehicle in broad daylight in the middle of an open parking lot seems iffy. Also – and this is something I wonder about in real life as well – why does the other woman always feel like they have “earned” full disclosure. Sleeping with you behind their wives back doesn’t mean they will be open and honest with you in all things. If you think that then you really don’t understand how cheating works.

Frank Sweeney and Blair
You almost have to feel sorry for Blair. Jett calmly telling him she wouldn’t call him an ambulance and his acceptance of that was a good scene. You have to feel a little sorry while thinking he had it coming! Also – Jett’s answer to Blair’s last words “What does your pussy taste like?” “Summer” Brilliant.

The Frank Sweeney backstory was really good as well. We find out that Frank named Jett….Jett. My sister looked at me and said, “Oh like how Prince named Carmen Electra.” So yes, exactly like that. When Jett finally catches up to Frank in the present he is pretty subdued. He doesn’t want his life to continue on this way either and Jett helps him find peace. Jett doesn’t kill indiscriminately so this was an interesting look into her as a person. She may not have always liked Frank, but he was miserable and she saw that.

Jett
As always she is the best part of the episode. The scene where she is wiping blood off of her while taking a call from her daughters school was so great. The teacher explaining to Jett that blood makes girls squeamish…HA! Then we have the way Jett dealt with that rude woman at the disable living facility. You never know what someone is capable of and for Madisen with an E to assume that Jett is no threat just because she smiled at her while asking questions was a mistake. The way Jett slapped her and then made her look at the counter was the most fantastic.

Tidbits
I’d like to take this moment to remind all of you that this show is written by a man. Have you ever seen so many amazing, strong, broken, complete women characters in one show? This comes up in my house a lot. It’s a running joke that you can tell when a man writes a woman character. They are usually a caricature of an actual human. Guys write girls like, “She titted boobly down the stairs.” That doesn’t happen on Jett. The women are all powerful in their own way. They handle their own business. They do the best they can with their circumstances and they navigate the world around them like an actual human would. It’s refreshing.

Charles also telling that same guy, “intention doesn’t determine outcome” It sure does not.
Phoenix after babysitting Jett’s daughter, “best time I ever had earning money” She truly is a hooker with a heart of gold.
