THE ROOKIE Roundtable: The Shake Up
The Rookie was back with a new episode this week, focusing on:
A massive earthquake rocks the city and throws everyone’s patrols and its citizens into chaos. Meanwhile, agent Russo recommends Officer Nolan for a protective detail of Brad Hayes, a man whose dealings have put a target on his head..
Let’s dig into the episode with our new feature SASSY: S(tupid), A(wesome), S(o) S(o) and Y(our Thoughts):
STUPID
Roz: Oh West! What are you doing trying to ruin your great thing with the nurse over stuff that you really can’t control? It’s fine to be so distracted in the morning you forget your bag – though it’s not good to forget your off-duty weapon – but to blow up your mistake into something that big that could end the relationship is not worth your time!
Leah: I have had enough of West and his drama. He is at the bottom of my list. When will being such a dumb ass catch up with him?
Rueben: I’m sorry but Joel McHale’s character: what an idiot!?! I cannot admit to being a McHale fan (I’m not), but his character was just annoying.
AWESOME
Roz: I want to give Sergeant Grey all the props for staying as calm as he did during the aftermath of the earthquake while also orchestrating some work to get that new captain out of the office.
Leah: Let’s all agree with Roz. Grey, who often is too hard on Nolan for my taste, came through this episode – for everyone.
Rueben: I agree with Roz. Sergeant Grey was really the highlight of this episode because he handled the aftermath of that earthquake so well, and then gave all the credit to the Captain – even if that was as a way to get that douche out of their hair.
SO SO
Roz: Why are we putting an earthquake into an episode? I don’t need more nerves about one hitting here.
Leah: I’d like to second Rueben’s sentiment – after last weeks super fantastic emotional episode – this episode fell flat, despite the overabundance of dramatics.
Rueben: I wasn’t as happy with this episode as I was hoping especially after how moving and intense last week’s episode was. I could’ve done without most of the incidents that took place – the high mansion owner in Bel Air, the overly religious mother basically torturing her son even though she thought she was taking the possession out of him, the grave robber, West over-reacting to his boyfriend – need I say more?
YOUR THOUGHTS
Roz: Finally we meet Lucy’s family! I like this look at her dad and why he has issues with her being a police officer with all the work he does.
Leah: Love Michael Trucoo – so I was happy to see him in the mix as a guest star. And anytime we can get backstory on a character I am in.
Rueben: I still love that the show brings on really great guest stars. Michael Trucco (who recurred on Castle for awhile) and all the others. I just wish they’d get a bit more to do than appear in a few short scenes. I want to see them get a Captain worthy of taking over for Captain Anderson. Now that we got to see a little about Chen’s family, maybe we could learn a little more about some of the other officer’s families…
