THE ROOKIE Roundtable: Standoff

By  |

After about a month’s break for the holidays, The Rookie was back with a new episode, which focused on:

Officer Bradford’s wife is found shot but alive, and he vows to track down the man responsible; Officer Nolan must protect his home [well, technically his college buddy’s home] and the truth after a home invasion attack.

Let’s dig into the last first new episode of 2019 with our new feature SASSY: S(tupid), A(wesome), S(o) S(o) and Y(our Thoughts):

STUPID

Roz: It was such a small part of the episode, but that dad who was always drunk to pick up his kid at the station is sad and makes me so frustrated that a kid would have to live with that type of adult decisions as a kid.

Rueben: I have to agree with Roz. That dad showing up drunk to pick up his young son, and the fact that the poor kid knows exactly what’s going on; that little guy doesn’t deserve that. Shame on the dad!

AWESOME

Roz: It was a team effort to stop Vance from getting too big. It was a jam-packed episode of teamwork in sort of solitude, and everyone had a story that spoke to how all the training officers (with Chen and West) do great work.

Rueben: I was really impressed with all of them dealing with that stand-off at the building. They really pulled together, and Bishop dealing with so much on her own. I felt bad that that one detective lost his life because of that dirtbag Vance’s guys.

SO SO

Roz: Oh Lucy! Don’t fall back into something with Nolan after his moral crisis! You are a strong woman who doesn’t need Nolan for validation.

Rueben: Roz and I really seem to be on the same wavelength. Lucy tells Nolan that they need to stay apart, but yet she keeps coming back for more. Make up your mind, girl!! Lucy delivering that baby was a little too much too given that there was already SO much going on in that episode.

YOUR THOUGHTS

Roz: Hey Eugene Byrd! I love you and your role was too short, but really effective. It was also a small, but good moment, to hear a man of color talk about why he has issues with the police, even if they are all worrying about the same bigger badder figure.

Rueben: This show does get the best guest stars, but as Roz said, they are under-utilized a bit too much especially Eugene. I can’t imagine he’ll be included in another episode – just like the other cool guest stars – but it would be nice to see some of them again *cough* Sara Rue *cough*. Also, can they start to make the episodes more like this one? There for awhile I was ready to give up on the show, and then I simply kept coming back because of Nathan, but if they can give us episodes like this one, the show just might have a future (or at least one more season).
