THE GOOD PLACE Roundtable: The Funeral to End All Funerals

By  |

The Good Place continues its final season with a brand new episode this week. Check out our thoughts below. Here’s a synopsis:

The group awaits the judge’s final decision on the fate of human existence.

We’re going to divide our thoughts on this episode into three self-explanatory categories – The Good Place, The Medium Place, and The Bad Place, plus a final category for favorite quotes or overall thoughts.

The Good Place

Cay: OMG, “Weekend at Bernie’s” Chidi killed me! Especially him floating in the pool!

Roz: I loved Jason’s funeral because it was so him.

Christie: The Janets. The test results game show board with the “Price is Right” lose sound! How much Jason loved his funeral while he was pretending to be dead. Tahani in sweatpants.

And I thought the episode made an amazing point about people. Sean points out that Brent got worse even after a year of having all his needs met. But the thing was, Brent grew up and lived with all his needs met. So the experiment was never going to work on him, until he was faced with “real tragedy.”

Bad Place

Cay: I have a hard time believing that all the evil Janets suddenly decided to stop…ahem…farting around…and stand up for something. It just doesn’t seem in character.  With all the growth that Eleanor has shown, I would have thought she deserved a slightly more classy funeral, but I guess while you can take the girl out of Arizona…

Roz: Cliffhangers are horrible! I want a better answer for what is going to happen to all of these folks.

Christie: How the Hell is the Good Place Heaven? The people who run it are ridiculous. If this were a high religious fantasy series, the Bad Place would have overrun them centuries ago in a bloodless invasion. I just can’t imagine all that push over is heavenly.

The Medium Place

Cay: The jokes about Janet’s void got a bit old in this one and while I love the Judge, sometimes her pop culture references feel a bit awkward in the story line, but maybe that’s because I’m thinking regular time, not Jeremy Bearimy time…

Christie: A little Maya Rudolph sometimes goes a long way. I love her, but she got a little annoying this episode.

Roz: The evil Janets were either brilliant or just wrong and I wish I knew which one right now.

Final Thoughts & Quotes We Loved

Roz: Why is the Judge obsessed with Ally McBeal and why do I sort of agree with her?

Christie: I wondered how they were going to make this work, with the experiment ending with so many episodes left. This was a great twist. Favorite quotes:

“Your friends say anything about you so much as they graffitied a Red Lobster about you.” “Yeah, in Jacksonville that’s the first stage of grief.”

“You know what they say in Florida: if you don’t like this funeral, juuust wait a minute!” *rolling on the floor* As a Florida resident, I can find that funny!
