Burden of Truth: The 7 Upsetting Events in “The Milk of Human Kindness”

By  |

The second episode of the second season of Burden of Truth aired on Sunday night on The CW, finding quite a number of things going wrong for Joanna’s latest case as well as a very unsettling incident happening in Millwood.

Here are the 7 upsetting events that took place (in no particular order):

1. Sunil – It turns out that Joanna’s assistant was actually working for the enemy: he was a mole for Lovand, the company that was trying to force Joanna’s client Noah to take down his latest app.

2. David – Joanna’s dad was in Millwood in a vain attempt to get Gerrilynn to drop her case against him so much so that he gave her a check for $500,000. It seems apropos that someone like him (rich white guy) would try to buy off the woman he had an affair with when she was underage not to mention got her pregnant.

3. Luna – Not only is she having relationship woes with her girlfriend Molly and feeling like she isn’t doing enough as a volunteer with the Bear Clan to help the Native Americans in the city, but she had a discomfiting confrontation with her biological dad at the Millwood Motel.

4. Shane – What an ass this guy is? He acts very much like a man-child and it’s only when his older brother Billy finally gives him a taste of reality – that their deadbeat dad told Billy at the age of 8 that he was “the man of the family now.” Shane is acting like a spoiled brat with no responsibilities. I just cannot stand him!

5. Taylor – Giving her duplicitous father a second chance, Taylor returned to Millwood to speak with him; only to have that reunion fail miserably. I feel really bad for Taylor and am even more angry at her dad for wanting to move on “from all that” – meaning the fact that it was his fault that Taylor, Molly and the other girls were afflicted with those severe medical issues.

6. Noah – It was clear that he was spinning out of control (and the reveal that he deals with depression could not help him at all) given what Lovand was doing to him in retaliation; but in the 11th hour Joanna pulled out the stops seeming to hold off the powerful company [at least for the short interim; rest assured that company isn’t going to go quietly]

7. David (and Luna) – The end of the episode revealed that Joanna’s dad was found dead in the Millwood Motel; and it sure seemed that Luna might just be the prime suspect given her confrontation earlier in the day in his motel room.
