LUCIFER Roundtable: “Somebody’s Been Reading Dante’s Inferno”

By  |

Lucifer is back! We were pretty worried last year when Fox canceled the show starring our Future Fake Husband, but then Netflix divinely intervened and gifted us with a season four.

Netflix has dropped the whole season, as they do, but we will be recapping an episode a week as to get the full season experience.

Join us as we use our new rating system known as SASSY – S(tupid), A(wesome), S(o) S(o) and Y(Your Thoughts) – to discuss Lucifer episode 4.02, “Somebody’s Been Reading Dante’s Inferno”.

STUPID

Melissa: Yeah, the whole “Chloe is working with Random Priest to send Lucifer back to Hell” plotline was a bust for the most part. The silver lining is that it allowed her to work out some of her emotions and decide that, oh, actually, she does like Lucifer as a person and she does not want to put an ax through his chest. Otherwise this felt like yet another instance where Chloe, who we’ve been told over and over is Super Smart, Super Intuitive, Just the Best Detective Ever was manipulated once again by someone she should not have trusted. I mean, what proof does she have that Random Priest is who he says he is and not, like, another demon gunning for control of Earth?

Cay: I disagree with Melissa. The fact that Chloe supposedly met Father Kinley at the Vatican would generally serve to dispel concerns that he was a demon. Plus, it sounds exactly like something the Catholic Church would try to do, based on history.  I am waiting to pass judgement on this plot line. I kind of like the concept, I just want to see how it plays out.

Lisa: I think that plotline was a great cliffhanger to the pilot episode but I am hoping it won’t be the focus of the whole season because that would be stupid in my opinion.

AWESOME

Melissa: Dr. Linda is pregnant with Amenadiel’s baby!?!?! I did not know I wanted this until it happened! And I am delighted that Amenadiel had already chosen to make Los Angeles/Earth his home before this was revealed so there is no question it was completely his choice. I can’t wait to watch this storyline unfold. (If you’ve watched ahead and it turns out badly, I don’t want to know.)

Cay: I liked the discussion between Luci and Amenadiel about how exactly this all went down, as well as Amenadiel’s theory for how it happened. Wonder how far along she is? I’ve lost total track of the timeline for this show, but it seems like their relationship was MONTHS ago.  I also loved the scene where Chloe finds out the truth about Luci’s vulnerability around her. Got a bit aggressive with that ax, though!

Lisa: Yay! We have a baby an Amenadiel and Dr. Linda baby on the way! So sweet! I loved the scene with Luci and Amy where he was describing the date he planned for Chloe. It was so romantic. Also I cracked up laughing when Luci told Chloe that she was wearing a lovely new fragrance and she said it was bug repellent! HA! Luci has some great lines.

SO-SO

Cay: I both like and hate Chloe’s internal struggle about what to do with Luci. It’s an idea that takes a while to wrap one’s mind around and of course Chloe is going to try to be rational before following her heart.

Lisa: I think I am going to change my So-So thoughts for sad thoughts because I felt so bad for Amenadiel when he  was trying to find his purpose on earth. When that lady stole his wallet, I thought yep. That is the world we live in. Someone tries to do something nice and gets screwed. I didn’t want that lesson for Amenadiel.

YOUR THOUGHTS

Cay: There was some good stuff in this episode! The reality show plot line seemed pointless, though. One of the many episodes where the murder of the week is irrelevant.

Lisa: I am loving this season so far. I will say that I thought since the show was on Netflix they would take more risks. It feels the same as id did on Fox and it’s not a bad thing but without the limitations of network television, there is so much more they can do. We shall see how it unfolds.
