DEADLY CLASS Roundtable: “Noise, Noise, Noise”

By  |

DEADLY CLASS aired episode two tonight. See what we have to say about the dark coming of age journey.

The Good

Roz: Teenaged rebellion at its finest, yet again. These kids are all so flawed but they don’t care to mind that they’re obsessed with sex and drugs. Also, I love the small nod to how horrible AIDS was because we don’t get enough of the negative side of Reagan’s policies. Even that party reminded me of Hughes movies in the best (but darker) way.

Leah: I love the poison/potions teacher, Jurgen. Him recognizing in Marcus what is wrong with how this school now teaches/treats “rats” was good. Marcus has had a hard run and any authority talking to him like a person was appreciated.

Ange: Although not a long scene, I quite enjoyed watching the group fight sequence and hope to see more. Also, I may be biased but damn, Saya is a fierce queen! From giving Chico a bit of sass and not being afraid to stand up to him, to showing up at the party with her katana (as you do). I also love that she was dishing out romance advice to Billy.

The Bad

Roz: Chico’s kill for his dad mixed with Petra’s choice of Viktor over Billy at the party. I understand the need for someone like Chico to be that alpha male (and for him to be part of a drug cartel) but man is he gross and misogynistic. Petra should do so much better than Viktor too!

Leah: I do not like Chico period. I get the character, I understand where he is coming from, but every time he is on screen I want to scream. That overly macho, everything can be strong armed, uggh!

Ange: Jumping on the bandwagon here, Chico is the worst and Maria needs to ditch him pronto!

The Music

Roz: “Girls on Film” by Duran Duran in Saya and Maria’s room is a nice nod to what could have been a cheesy and uninteresting moment between them.

Ange: Yes, I appreciated the usage of “Girls on Film” in this ep! Technically music related, Saya rocking a Bad Religion shirt was a nice touch to remind us of this era. And of course Marcus listens to The Smiths!
