3 Brutal STUNNERS in VIKINGS ‘Baldur’

By  |

In tonight’s episode fans were given a prime seat on a roller coaster ride of emotion. Floki departs, Lagertha arrives and Ivar falls, each in unexpected ways. It is this experience that keeps fans coming back for more week after week. These complex plot lines and multifaceted characters brilliantly shine a light on areas in our own lives we would sometimes like to ignore. No one is ever truly evil or wholly good. We are all a mix of both and our lives, for good or for ill, are a result of the choices we alone make.

Floki’s Anger

Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård ) gives the best Life Lessons.
“I can’t change other human beings. I can change myself.”
The former ship builder from Kattegat washes his hands of the new tribe and follows a different path into the pit of Hel. Can we blame him? Good riddance to bad rubbish. I don’t know that we’ve ever seen a bigger bunch of Viking snowflakes as the rabble that followed Floki. Their petty bickering and complaining was enough to drive anyone insane. Here’s to hoping his new adventure leads him to a happy place.

Lagertha’s Grief

Oh my dear one! We have missed you! Judith discovers Lathertha (Katheryn Winnick) while seeking the aid of a hedge witch. Our Viking Queen has been engulfed in a haze of grief. Her cumulative trauma proved too much. The gods gifted her with the excruciating honor of experiencing the agony of Ragnar’s passing and then eased the bitterness with a tender kiss of a better days. This brought her out of her emotional maze leaving behind clearer eyes in search of a new purpose. Lagertha sees a kind of kinship in Judith. The next chapter in their lives will be anything but boring!

Ivar’s Choice

Ragnar’s youngest child continues his downward spiral into insanity in the unwavering belief of his own divinity. Ivar (Alex Høgh Andersen) believes this delusion so strongly he viciously murders any one who would dare speak out. Methinks the gods are not pleased with his audacity and rewards his temerity in the deformity of
his first-born son.

It is in that heartbreaking valley, between the choice he makes and the one his mother made all those years ago that Ivar finally sees truth. “I have waited for you a long time. I thought you would make everything perfect. It was my dream, but it was only a dream. You are not divine because you remind me of myself. I cannot let that happen. I cannot allow you to suffer as I have suffered throughout my life.” Maybe in this lesson Ivar will finally find his true heart, but I am beginning to have serious reservations
he can be redeemed.
