THE GOOD PLACE: Janet(s) {Roundtable}

By  |

This week on The Good Place, Team Cockroach heads into Janet’s void to buy some time while Michael and Janet attempt to find out about the accounting of all points..

Stupid:

Roz: This was a strong episode, but I could have gone without Tahani and Jason seeing Janet’s love for Jason.

Cara: This was definitely a very solid episode. Perhaps the weakest point for me was Eleanor Janet posing as Jason-Janet, but even that wasn’t a deal-breaker for me.

Cay: Yeah, Tahani and Jason and the giant board in the sky didn’t do it for me, either.

Leah: There were a number of episodes I could do without this season, but this was a strong episode, and there wasn’t anything major I didn’t like. If I had to pick I would say exactly what Roz said, but only if I had to. Even that was only a minor annoyance.

Awesome:

Roz: All the Janets. I just want to live with D’Arcy Carden’s impressions of her castmates.

Cay: Loved the void scenes and thought that the accounting office was hilarious as well. Jason-Janet was pretty spot on – even the voice! There were some very good jokes in this episode, too!

Cara: This episode was so, so, so good. D’Arcy Carden is spectacular, and it was just an overall great episode. Jason-Janet might have been my favorite, but she really nailed Eleanor and Chidi as well. I also  really enjoyed Neil the accountant as a one-off character. He’s sort of the embodiment of the banality of neutral evil.

Leah: D’Arcy Carden is an amazing, awesome, fantastic person. Her Janet’s were honestly some of the best acting this year….from anyone. It was so delightful to watch.

So-So:

Roz: How did no accountant realize the Bad Place had all of humanity for so many years? 500 years of no one making into The Good Place didn’t set off any alarm bells?

Cay: Yeah, exactly Roz! Or are there really that few people in The Good Place?? Definitely seems like the formula is messed up!

Cara: It did feel a little like Jason and Tahini were a little superfluous this episode, particularly Tahani. I mean, the episode essentially just had them wander off, which can’t be good.

Leah: Is there no one auditing The Accountant? If Shawn is Satan where is his Good Place counterpart? They aren’t checking the numbers?

Your Thoughts/Favorite Quote:

Roz: Holy forking shirtballs, we’re in The Good Place.

Cara: This was such a solid episode, but my favorite moment was Jason’s things white people say. It was a nice little bit of what this show does best, throw shade at humanity in a way that lets us laugh at ourselves.

Cay: There were a ton of lines that made me snort, but I can’t remember any of them – argh! Definitely my second favorite episode (the first being Jeremy Beremy and Chidi making the Peep chili).

Leah: This season has been uneven for me but I should have trusted they would pull it all together at some point. Yay!

The Good Place airs Thursday 8/7c on NBC. It will return in January for new episodes. What did we think of other episodes? Check those out here.
