MURPHY BROWN: Thanksgiving and Taking {Recap}

By  |

Murphy strong arms all the gang into a Thanksgiving dinner where she’s cooking. What couldn’t go wrong? We find out in Thanksgiving and Taking, with one more big downer besides a delayed dinner.

(Cara’s off having a wonderful weekend, leaving me to talk about Murphy solo.)

Old News

Roz: Murphy’s long standing inability to cook is classic, but at Thanksgiving it’s hard to watch her fail so much. Self-sufficiency is fine, but on a day when we all car about the food that is eaten, I want another set of jokes.

New News

Roz: Miguel’s parents being taken away by ICE as they were settling to finish the turkey is a low blow for a situation that is real. I had never thought of ICE looking for immigrants that were already here that were undocumented, as most of what we see is about ICE working on newly arrived people who are not allowed to stay. On a day when we’re all with families or friends, to see one family torn apart is not only a bit hard to swallow, but also anathema to what I see as the whole season is about. We should celebrate family, friends and immigrants (wheren’t the Pilgrims immigrants?) who survived a long journey here.

Murphy Brown airs on Thursdays at 9:30PM on CBS. Check out all of our other coverage of Murphy Brown here.

Roz lives in the Los Angeles area, and has been a long time California girl. Despite her better judgment, she enjoys shows about the shallow sides of her home city, but will also find time to watch iZombie, Jane the Virgin, and much more. With a love of history, she also watches anything that is grounded in real life, including Victoria and black-ish. Having worked with children, she also follows shows she knows they watch (reminding her of those days of yore for her in the process). Contact her at roz@nicegirlstv.com.
