Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger: 5 Twists in “Princeton Offense”

By  |

Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger continues to unravel the mysteries surrounding Ty and Tandy, but this week we started to see more about the losses that are driving them.

Detective O’Reilly

Ty makes contact with Detective O’Reilly but doesn’t get the response he wants. After talking to Liam (left hanging by Tandy), the detective picks up a low level club dealer. It was pretty surprising to see her doing cocaine, but it looks like it’s just a ploy to get to Connors. Nonetheless, it definitely seems like we’re meant to have some doubts about her, if minor.

Duane

After an emotional moment remembering his brother with his mother, Tyrone found himself with one of his brother’s best friend. Ty is pleased to see the Duane is doing well, but at the end of the episode we learn that Duane is a kind of partner with Connors. How he got in that position, we don’t know. But we do know that he knows Connors is the one who killed Ty’s brother and that Duane is a part of the drug problem in the city.

Cloak &  Dagger

Tandy seems to have mastered her power, but she still has a lot to learn about it. When she starts using her ability to see people’s hopes to learn about Roxxon, Ty discovers that their powers are more linked than they realized when he gets pulled to her. She can control her powers, but he can’t, so Tandy gives him a little push to help him figure it out. Both are mastering their powers, but there is still a lot to learn about living with them. Ty’s team has made it to the state finals, but a couple brushes with his opponents show him that there’s a lot on the line for them in this game. Worse, he learns that the ref is fixing the game, so in the end he botches the final shot. This won’t win him any favors with the team, but you have to give the guy credit for doing the right thing. It’s interesting how Ty has the ability to see fears and is associated with darkness, but yet he is obviously the more upstanding of the two. Tandy calls him a choirboy, but I have a lot more respect for him at this point. She just keeps reverting to her shady ways.

Evita

OMG, they’re going steady! After a little confusion when Evita calls Ty a friend, the two are officially together when he gives her his jacket. After the loss at the state final, Ty comes home to find Evita in his bedroom. It looks like things are heating up between them, and it would be amazing for Ty to have something great in his life. I just hope she’s all that she seems. I mean, how did she know where his bedroom was? She sees him, and let’s hope that her feelings are genuine.

Mina Hess

After tracking down Peter Scarborough, Tandy learns the name of another victim of Roxxon. This leads her to Mina Hess. Unfortunately, Mina seems to have fallen on the opposite side of the Roxxon explosion as she was well taken care of and is now working for the company. Tandy has learned that her father and Mina’s were working together prior to the accident, so she’s likely going to be key to some important information about what happened.

Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger airs Thursdays at 8/7c on Freeform.

Cara spends way too much time thinking about subtext, and the puns are always intended. When not watching TV, she can generally be found with her nose in a book.
