Blindspot Roundtable: Defection

By  |

As the next to the last episode of this season, things started heating up in this episode and we saw the return of Shepherd, Roman having further mental health issues, Jane questioning whether she could kill Roman if she had to, and Zapata finally having the falling out with the CIA that we’ve been expecting.

Cay, Leah, Rueben and Roz share their thoughts below. Feel free to add yours in the comments!

Do you think that Jane would pull the trigger on Roman if she had to?

Leah: No. I really don’t. They share a pretty traumatic childhood and that bonds them no matter what.

Rueben:  I think that Jane believes she will be able to pull the trigger on her brother, but when that times comes (and we know it will happen again), I have a feeling she will chock even though part of her will tell herself to pull the trigger.

Roz: I want her to be able to pull that trigger, but I think she knows that their link/bond is too strong to sever completely.

Cay: I’m not sure. I feel like under the right circumstances she could, but their relationship is the definition of “it’s complicated”.

Thoughts on what is going on with Roman in terms of his previous collapse and now his hallucinations, etc?

Leah: I don’t even know. But I did think it was weird that last episode they focused in on Jane having headaches when she doesn’t get sleep. Like maybe it’s something that she has too? Or it’s connected.

Rueben:  I wondered about Jane and Roman’s connection because of the headaches.  Could this be something that was caused while they were in that orphanage (or whatever it was) when Shepherd found them?  Or is it something genetic?  I have no idea what it is, but it’s certainly seems connected to me.

Roz: I worry that they’re headaches are connected – and after Shepard’s prophetic words – I worry that they are connected to each other. But maybe Shepard had some sort of time-delayed plan for them to need each other as much as they do (or is it a failsafe for when one of them died?)

Cay: I didn’t think of the connection between the two of them. It does seem weird that they just stuck that in about Jane. Maybe it is related to the drug that wiped their memories? Or Roman is coming completely apart. Ironic that he keeps pretending to have PTSD – I think he has it.

What do you think is going to happen with Blake? How much longer can Roman keep her in the dark?

Leah: How will this ever work if he doesn’t loop her in? She has to find out sometime….or it is all inauthentic. And he desperately wants a family. A real family.

Rueben:  If she doesn’t have an inkling by now that something is greatly amiss, she’s dense.  I have to wonder how she will react when he gives her even a small glimpse into the truth about who he really is.  I’m more concerned about how she’ll react.  He may want a family, but lying to the woman he claims to love, isn’t the way to get one.

Roz: Not that I’m blonde, but she’s giving everyone who is a bad name. I can’t believe she’s not the least bit suspicious after everything that’s happened so far.

Cay: I keep thinking she must have some idea what’s going on, but then it turns out she’s clueless. I’m curious to see which way she goes when she finds out – does she buy into her father’s vision – doing lots of bad things for a “nobel” cause, or does she totally go off the rails on him and Roman?

It feels like the majority of the episodes this season have involved part of team Tattoo disarming a bomb with seconds to go.

Leah: I know! (read that in a Monica from Friends voice)

Rueben:  It is getting a bit too repetitive, isn’t it?  Surely the writers could come up with more original scenarios; after all they come up with all the crazy tattoo related stories after all.

Roz: It’s a tired trick, but when you have a guy with lots of access to crazy things, it’s bombs or guns (which the show uses too).

Cay: Don’t forget ICBMS, I think those have come up a few times, but bombs seems to be every plot lately.

Rich and Patterson together – awesome or really awesome?

Leah: Really really awesome. Anytime he’s on an episode it’s a good time. Also anytime Patterson and Rich are together…they just play off each other really well.

Rueben:  I have to agree with Leah.  It’s just great to have Rich in any episode.  They made a wise decision in adding him to the show.  He and Patterson do play off each other very well.

Roz: They always brighten an episode, and the way they play off each other is great.

Cay: I love Rich! He adds so much levity to episodes and he has great chemistry with Patterson

Zapata and Reade – good idea, bad idea?

Leah: Bad but…..eh…..I’m okay with it.

Rueben:  It’s a bit too much a bit too late.  I think they just might regret it after a fashion.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m okay with it, but this hook up, well, it’s a bad idea.

Roz: Such a bad idea, but I’m more in favor of them than I was Reade and Meg.

Cay: Ugh. That’s all I have to say

Favorite lines or scenes?

Leah: Actually Shepherd. I missed her crazy.

Rueben:  I loved it when Rich and Patterson said that long-ass chemical terminology simultaneously and then Reade reacted to them, calling them the Wonder Twins.  I got a good chuckle out of that.

Cay: “Time is a flat circle and I have ADHD” – Rich. WTF does this mean? But it was funny because it was delivered so well!
