RECAP: When Calls the Heart “Heart of the Matter”

By  |

Welcome home to the newlyweds on When Calls the Heart…well…not exactly.

Elizabeth Thornton returned to Hope Valley after her honeymoon with new husband Jack; but she returned home alone because Jack was assigned a new, albeit temporary, post at Fort Clay, training new Mounties. If nothing else, Elizabeth doesn’t have to worry about Jack being put in harm’s way like before.

The bulk of the episode was focused on Elizabeth’s students learning about business from the business owners in Hope Valley because of the arrival of two potential investors brought to Hope Valley to save the town’s bank. It was quite comical to watch as Emily began to emulate Rosemary after spending a day at Dottie’s Apparels and Cody imitating Lee as he spent his day at the lumber mill. Then there was Robert spending the day with Carson and Faith at the town’s clinic only to pass out when Jesse came in with that nasty sliver in his hand. His reaction to that sliver was a little too predictable though. Of course, we all knew that little Opal was only at the mercantile in order to get her hands on as much candy as she could. Having Elizabeth finding Opal sitting on the floor with all of that chocolate in her hands and smears all over her face were simply priceless!

As for the investors – Joshua Baxter, who was brought into town by Mr. Jenkins, the bank manager, and Greta Preston, who was brought into town by Henry Gowen – it seemed very clear who was going to be good for the town and who wasn’t simply based on the fact that Mrs. Preston knew Elizabeth. But once former fugitive A.J. Foster – who decided to turn herself over to Bill after a year on the run – identified Baxter as a less than scrupulous man, it was cemented that Baxter was going to be a problem with Hope Valley. Sadly, though, Mr. Jenkins seemed to have made a deal with Baxter at the end of the episode before Abigail – as Mayor of Hope Valley – and Bill could stop any negotiations. Let’s just hope that Baxter can be stopped before he damages all that Hope Valley has become.

Where personal relationships are concerned, do you see anything more developing between Bill and A.J. [especially in light of the clips for next week?] What are your thoughts on last night’s episode? Did you like seeing more of some of the kids? What do you think will happen next? Please share your thoughts below.

The next new episode of When Calls the Heart will air on the Hallmark Channel on Sunday, April 8 at 9/8c.
