ONE CHICAGO Women: Chicago Fire 5×05, Chicago P.D. 4×07 & 4×08 recap

By  |

We may have been down a ONE CHICAGO show this week with Chicago Med‘s fall finale airing last week – although the presence of the upcoming Chicago Justice was deeply felt this week – but things were still hella dramatic! Read on to find out what went down with the leading ladies of  Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. this week, which was the latter’s fall finale

Gabriela Dawson: Dawson has a tendency to be hot-headed and get riled up about things so it was interesting to see her as the calm and level-headed one when Casey and Severide can’t seem to see eye to eye about what happened during a call that lead to a woman’s unfortunate death. Casey seems to think that the victim’s husband deliberately set the fire, whilst Severide thinks that the grieving man is innocent. With Dawson’s brief stint in arson, both fire fighters value her take on the situation, putting her in a tough spot. Dawson also appears on P.D. leading her support to her brother Antonio, who has been offered a job as lead investigator at the State Attorney’s office. The job would mean more normal hours for the divorced father, which Gaby tells her brother makes all the difference when you have kids. Off-screen, Gaby is also supporting her nephew Diego when Antonio is unable to make it to his meet.

Sylvie Brett: Brett and Mouch’s publishing dreams come to an end this week when they are busted by the CFD public relations chief after Brett accidentally leaves the manuscript at the Firehouse’s copier. (The look Mouch gives receptionist Connie when he realises she ratted them out is priceless.) Did I mention that they got busted after Trudy’s publishing friend offerred them a deal to publish the book for $25, 000? Ouch! Also in this episode, Brett and Dawson tend to a call where a teen’s Homecoming prom-posal has gone wrong. The object of his affections wasn’t even home and he fell out of a tree, injuring himself and also became a viral sensation and not in a good way. While Heather – the girl he was going to ask – takes pity on him and rushes to the hospital, she turns down his prom-posal because someone has already asked him. Wanting to do something nice and better his reputation, Brett becomes his date to the dance. Yep, Heather was totally kicking herself! On a different note, I have to say that I’m surprised that Brett didn’t make an appearance on P.D. – it’s been a few weeks since their encounter at Molly’s and I totally thought that they would be seeing each other by now or at the very least she’d be at Molly’s during his farewell drinks. You can’t tease us like that guys!

Stella Kidd: After Firehouse 51 is grafittied overnight, Hermann is outraged and tries to gather the Truck team to stay on watch with him overnight to try and catch the tagger. Realising they could be there all night, Kidd gets up to grab a magazine to keep her occupied on watch but reconsiders after Hermann gets snarky with her. In the wee hours of the morning, Hermann wakes to find that everyone else has left him. They don’t catch the tagger that shift but they finally do (thanks to some great legwork by Kidd) when they spot the tagger’s signature when returning from a call. He’s just a kid!

Erin Lindsay: This week we get a double dose of P.D. with two episodes to wrap up the fall. In the first hour, Intelligence are dealing with a smarmy rich boy accused of being a rapist and murderer after the eyewitness in his case turns up dead. Lindsay is determined to nail him especially after seeing his entitled douchey ass in court. She does well with not losing her cool at him during encounters (Halstead’s comment on holding her back and the look she gives him after Voight tells him to make sure she doesn’t lunge across the table at rich boy was cute.) and even manages to get a few verbal zingers in at him. Take that douchebag! The second hour opens up with Linsay and Halstead about to have breakfast with her mother for the first time as an official couple. Aww! Bunny wants to tell Lindsay something important but their breakfast is cut short with the news that a fellow cop has been gunned down nearby. And so begins this harrowing and very dramatic episode of cops being taken out by a mysterious yet precise asailant. It’s all hands on deck. While this is going on, Lindsay also happens to overhear rumors of Antonio’s departure and confronts him about it in front of the rest of the Intelligence team. He confirms the news and admits that he starts his new gig on Monday. This high stakes episode is like a mini unofficial crossover episode – we see Peter Stone from Chicago Justice, Dr Halstead and Dr Charles from Chicago Med make an appearance. Not to mention Med‘s Sharon Goodwin and Fire‘s Chief Boden are seen paying their respects at the end of the episode in the aftermath of these police shootings. (It was the son of a well respected cop who was shot in the line of duty. The son was kicked out of the police academy after four months and had a history of mental instability.) Also throughout the episode, Bunny was trying to get a hold of Lindsay but she kept ignoring the calls. When she finally goes to see her mother at the end of the ep, Bunny reveals that Papa Lindsay is in town and wants to see her.

Kim Burgess: Burgess finally gets her well deserved wish of being moved up into Intelligence but not without some dramas first. Issue number one is her new partner Mike Sorensen. Let’s just say he ain’t no Tay (or Roman or Atwater). Case and point? When they pull over a guy who was swerving and discover that he’s not wearing pants, Sorensen not only films the guy admitting that he’s in a skirt and chastity belt, but also uploads it to social media! Platt is definitely not impressed when she finds out and reprimands both of them (because Burgess is guilty by association, having known that Sorensen filmed the incident and didn’t do anything about it). Then in the second hour, Burgess gets caught up in the police shooting drama when a second officer is shot right in front of her eyes and Burgess ends up being the one holding her as she bleeds out on the way to Med. Unfortunately the officer died as soon as she fell to the ground. In the aftermath of these shootings, Sorensen refuses to go back out and quits. At the end of the episode at Molly’s, Voight acknowledges the partner drama she’s had and tells her there’s a spot for her in his unit and he’ll see her on Monday. Lindsay congratulates her and we can’t wait to see more Lingress girl power, woo hoo!

Trudy Platt: Platt first appears on Fire this week, supporting husband Mouch after he is unable to get his book published. In a sweet gesture, she tells him while the world may never read the story he has written, there are some people that will – her book club, which happens to include Otis and Hermann’s wife Cindy! The group love the story and quiz him on what inspired him to create it. Aww, nicely done Platt! Then on P.D. after busting Sorensen, Platt tells a frustrated Burgess that she is trying to recitify her partner situation (although looks like there’ll be no need to now). Then when the police shootings go down, Platt reminds us why she is the heart and soul of District 21, giving the staff a damn good pep talk before they go out into the streets and risk their lives like they do every day. If Platt ever decides to retire, she should become a motivational speaker!

Sharon Goodwin: Although Med doesn’t return until 2017, we do see Sharon standing alongside Chief Boden at the police vigil in the closing scenes of P.D.‘s fall finale.

Shout Out of the Week: It was a pretty intense week in the ONE CHICAGO world, so intense that I don’t feel like I can single out one or two players for standout performances this week. Everyone really brought their A-game and it wouldn’t be fair.

Chicago Fire airs Tuesdays at 10/9c. Chicago P.D. airs Wednesdays at 10/9c and Chicago Med airs Thursdays at 9/8c, both shows will return in 2017, as will the debut of Chicago Justice. All four shows air on NBC.
