BLINDSPOT Roundtable: We Fight Death on Thick Lone Waters

By  |

Last night’s new episode of Blindspot (which was delayed from last week), was pretty intense. The episode focused on what happened when Weller and Jane disappeared during an undercover operation, and the rest of the team had to turn to two criminals for answers. And we saw the return of AUSA Weitz.

Here is what Leah, Roz, Rueben, Cay and Lisa had to say about the episode:

Zapata admitted to Reade that she took the knife believed to kill Coach Jones during a mission. Was that the right time to tell him about it?

Leah: I am so annoyed with Zapata’s handling of this. I am sure she feels she is doing the right thing but she isn’t. Is there ever a right time to say you stole evidence?

Roz: I don’t think it was the right time, but I think she was about to blurt it out if she didn’t tell him eventually. There’s never going to have been a good time, though and I appreciate that Reade sees that and reacts.

Rueben: She has really bad timing, it seems, with everything. There is a time and place to break that kind of news with Reade and it’s not in the middle of a mission where your boss and your team’s most valuable asset are missing.

Cay: When has Zapata ever been known for timing or thinking things through? How did she get as far as she is with these issues? You’d think she’d have flunked out at Quantico. She’s got my vote for the next cast member likely to be killed/written off because she can’t keep herself out of trouble.

Lisa: I agree. I don’t think it was the right time at all. Zapata really sucks at handling situations and I guess she has good intentions but she really just makes things worse.

Assistant US Attorney Weitz is back. Given how things played out in the episode, how bad are things going to get for the team and especially for Nas? Do we really care what happens to Nas?

Leah: I feel like Nas will end up taking the fall and our core group will still be relatively intact. Honestly – I don’t care for the Nas character. When she is gone, I will not be upset.

Roz: Weitz is never a happy bunny, but I think he’ll try to rain fire and brimestone down as best he can. It might get Nas out of the FBI, but that doesn’t bother me too much. This bigger case with Jane is dragging on to me and I’ll be okay if and when Nas leaves.

Rueben: I’ve been indifferent to Nas since her introduction, and her relationship with Weller has made my skin crawl so it won’t bother me if she’s not around. It’s a shame because I like Archie Panjabi, but I just don’t care for this character.

Cay: Nas is actually kind of growing on me a bit, but I still don’t care much what happens to her. I hate her relationship with Weller. And she’s NSA, so you can’t ever trust her!

Lisa: I’m in the same boat. I could care less what happens to Nas (which is strange for me becasue I love Archie Panjabi, she’s phenomenal). I think she will take the fall for sure and maybe we will lose one of our core peeps but I hope eveyone comes out ok.

Did Doyle really think that Nas and the FBI were going to buy any of his tale about how he took down the men at the summit; that Jane and Weller were too afraid to fight back and that Jane was into him? Really?

Leah: Was that just the most entertaining “flashback” ever? Matt Murray plays that kind of part so well. Loved his character – even if he is a big liar.

Roz: He clearly doesn’t know this part of the FBI to think any of them would believe him, but it was nice to see something silly (and over the top) rather than just serious.

Rueben: I was taken aback at first and then that second passed and I reacted, “what the…?” He did provide great comic relief but how in the world did he honestly think that the NSA or FBI would believe his over-the-top storytelling.

Lisa: This part cracked me up and like Roz said it was over the top. It’s nice to have a bit of comic relief to ease the tension. No way they were believing him. HA!

It turned out that Emil was really Nico Marconi. Did you figure that out beforehand or as it was being revealed?

Leah: I figured you don’t leave something as big as kidnapping Chen, someone Marconi has wanted for years up to anyone else. As soon as Patterson figured out Lynn was setting up sales for Marconi I knew it was him.

Roz: My week hasn’t been the best so I was slow to realize it, but I like the play in a way that reminded me of Leverage.

Rueben: Nope, I didn’t see it coming until it was nearly upon us in the storytelling. I was so off my game, as I usual figure that kind of thing out ahead of time.

Lisa: So the honest truth I was late to the party on this part, why? becasue I had to get some popcorn. Hee Hee So in my own defense, I missed it totally and didn’t know until it was revealed. Lucky I had fresh popcorn for the surprise.

Nas finally opened up to Patterson, giving her all the details she has gathered on Sandstorm over the past six years. Do you buy that Nas is opening up or is there an ulterior motive?

Leah: I think Nas believes Weitz. His time is limited and Patterson is a good person to carry on the search for Sandstorm.

Roz: I think she’s operating within her own morality and with her own framework, so I hope there’s nothing else going on. But given how secretive she’s been about most things, there’s always more layers.

Rueben: I have to admit to being thrown aback by her given the intel to Patterson. It’s great that she did, don’t get me wrong. But I’m surprised. I have to believe that the writers are gearing up for something to happen to Nas, allowing Patterson to take a lead role in bringing Sandstorm down. Wouldn’t that be great?!

Cay: Maybe the writers were making sure someone has the info before killing off Nas?

Lisa: Hmm…I still don’t trust her. I think she is up to something and her sharing with Patterson is part of her own agenda.

Do you think that Weller and Jane are finally on the mend, given that he told her he would miss her if she wasn’t around?

Leah: It would be about time. I know how TV shows work, and how you need tension, blah blah blah…Get them back together already!

Roz: I sure hope so. The show’s felt off-kilter with them at odds.

Rueben: I want to see them mend fences and get back on track, as I agree with Roz, they have been off-kilter. I don’t, however, want them to become a couple; that just doesn’t feel right to me after everything that has happened for both of them. I think the make great work partners and friends.

Cay: Yeah, I hope so, too, but I prefer it to stay platonic. Weller needs to keep it in his pants for a while and work through his many issues. I want to see them be close friends, not lovers.

Lisa: Please let it be true! They are so much better together than apart. I want to yell at Kurt “Get over it already!”

Was it wise for Reade to help Freddie get out of town or will that come back to bite him in the ass?

Leah: There have to be consequences for this whole debacle at some point. This won’t end well.

Roz: There’s going to be a fallout from it, but I think Reade does really want to protect Freddie from the whole case.

Rueben: I agree with Leah, that it won’t end well, but as Roz said Reade just wants to protect his childhood friend. He’s looking out for Freddie, but I have a feeling this assist is going to come back and hurt Reade in some way.

Cay: It wasn’t a surprise that he did it. And there doesn’t necessarily have to be bad consequences, because, in the end, do you think the cops are going to be really that motivated to track down the killer of a serial child molester? Not saying they would slack off entirely, but it’s not going to be top priority!

Lisa: Reade’s intentions were good and I want to see him not be the fall guy, but I think it’s going to come back and bite him in the ass. Poor Reade.

Well, we now know that Allison and Weller are having a girl? How much of the future storyline do you think will be devoted to that? And do you want more time to spend on it?

Leah: I find the idea of Weller having a kid as annoying as Weller sleeping with Nas. Neither really work for me in the grand scheme of things. What is going to happen? He is going to bring his daughter to work? Strap her in a backpack while he is out in the field? I mean really.

Roz: I think it’ll just be that beat in a few acts after next week (unless something truly horrible happens and the baby and Allison die), but who knows.

Rueben: I have to wonder if the worst is yet to come…in the fall finale, maybe? The writers wouldn’t be keeping it as part of the ongoing story if they didn’t intend to do more with it – good, bad or otherwise.

Cay: Judging by next week’s preview, I wouldn’t be surprised if the baby dies in the fall finale. I expected it to have happened already – it avoids that uncomfortable plot point, and provides even more drama for Weller and the team. The whole reveal and party was to get us emotionally invested before doing something awful…

Lisa: I hope they don’t spend too much time on it. I’m not invested in that storyline at all!

No surprise that Roman showed up at Jane’s place, right? But is he testing Jane’s loyalty given that message he received or is he really intent on having her by his side?

Leah: He is testing her. Roman would need a memory wipe to be on Jane’s side. He may love her, he may need his sister, but the mission is everything to him.

Roz: He’s so dependent on her that I think he can’t complete the plan without her, but I doubt he’s relying on her for that reason alone.

Rueben: He’s testing her for sure. We know Sandstorm has big plans in the works, right around the corner; but whatever he is bringing to her is totally a test. Like Leah said, he’d need a full memory wipe to be 100% on Jane’s side, as he’s been completely indoctrinated by Shepherd after all these years.

Cay: I would love to think that he’d choose Jane over Sandstorm, but I just don’t know.

Lisa: I think he is testing her. His loyalty to the mission is too important to him. He’s rather have him by his side, but I think he will do it without her because that is what’s most important to him.

Next week’s episode is the fall finale, what do you think is going to happen?

Leah: Oh you know – all hell will break loose. 🙂

Roz: Just don’t fridge Allison and the baby and I’m good.

Rueben: I think the writers are going to throw everything at us, leaving us with a big cliffhanger with everyone in jeopardy in one way or another.

Cay: That’s exactly what I expect to happen…

Lisa: Deep breath. Lots of action and freaking cliffhanger I’m sure. Yowza!

Here is the official tagline for next week’s episode:

After Jane discovers that Sandstorm is gearing up for an imminent attack, she risks everything to send a secret SOS to her FBI team.

Here is a trailer for next week’s fall finale:

Blindspot will air on Wednesday, November 16 at 8/7c on NBC.
