CONVICTION: Three Details in the Prospect Three Case {Recap}

By  |

Conviction pulls no punches when it comes to cases within the CIU. This week, Hayes Morrison (Hayley Atwell) wants to take on a high profile case of Conner Wallace (Eddie Cahill), wherein three teens were accused of beating and raping a woman as she walked through a park one night.

Over the course of the episode, the case’s strength unravels as the evidence reveals what really happened that night. But in the end, there were three big clues in the episode that shifted the CIU’s focus.

The Broken Watch

Zadie Daniels’ watch initially corroborated the DA’s theory to the time of the attack. Too bad as the investigation progressed that Daniels’ watch was broken during consensual sex with someone she worked with. Combined with the team uncovering that Zadie hadn’t left her office as everyone previously believed, the case started to fall apart with one single broken watch that wasn’t the result of a brick, but a roll in the hay (if you catch my meaning).

The Wagon Round-up

Once the watch challenged the time of the attack, the team looked into more of the details in how the three boys were rounded up by the police and what that meant. Maxine Bohen (Merrin Dungey) noted that all the boys were brought to the station via a wagon, not patrol cars. Those wagons were then rounding up three dozen teens, and they operate on a last in, first out system. The Prospect Three were not all put in the wagon at the same time, one having almost forty more minutes to attack Daniels than his friends. Brian was in the wagon near the end, and after digging into his past more, he appears to be the one with the most violent tendencies.

Beads

Brian’s violent tendencies allow the CIU to focus more on his background and his confession. After discovering his propensity to take a token from previous assaults, Hayes sees that his wrist has a set of beads on it. Zadie had been with a co-worker at a Mardi Gras themed party just before she was attacked. Brian wanted a keepsake from what he did to Zadie, which helped to keep him in jail for the assault of Zadie while releasing his friends.
