K.J. Steinberg

Today’s Women Behind the Scenes spotlight is focused on producer and writer K.J. (Kathryn J.) Steinberg.

K.J. did a little bit of acting before she took a step behind the scenes, appearing in an episode of Friends back in 1997 and then she had a small role in her brother Hank Steinberg’s HBO biopic 61* that aired in 2001. She also appeared in a 2003 episode of Without a Trace.

In 2004, she wrote an episode of Judging Amy and in 2006 she wrote an episode of the short-lived series Beautiful People. It was that year that K.J. worked with her brother Hank on the short-lived series The Nine where he served as the executive producer and she served as co-writer and co-executive producer of the series with him. In 2007, she was a writer and supervising producer on the short-lived series State of Mind. It was that year when she became a writer and co-executive producer on Gossip Girl.

Most recently, she is the executive producer on the ABC summer Mistresses where she has also served as a writer and a developer of the series for American TV.

Mistresses will return for its third season on ABC this Monday, May 30 at 10/9c.

Using her favorite online handle, Rueben is an East Coast-bred gal who is now a permanent Californian and a lifelong tv-oholic.
