ONE CHICAGO Women: Chicago Med 1×14 & Chicago Fire 4×19 recap

By  |

After a week’s hiatus, two-thirds of the ONE CHICAGO world were back this week. Read on to find out what the leading ladies of  Chicago Med and Chicago Fire got up to this week…

Sharon Goodwin: A suspected case of child abuse is once again the center of Sharon’s attention this week, but with Dr Manning being wrong last time, she’s hesitant for Sharon to bring in the department of child services so quickly this time. In the end, Sharon does bring them in (it’s not what you think) and the parents of the child are not happy hearing what they are told. At the episode over a drink at Molly’s, Sharon also reveals to Maggie that her husband is still keen on the idea of her joining him in retirement and is more persistent than ever.

April Sexton: Sparks continue to fly between the nurse and the patient’s father from last episode. The more she spends with him and his son, the more April is convinced that it is not a case of transference as Maggie suggested. In fact, April and Eric go out on a date to Molly’s at the end of the episode and although he cuts it short to return to his son in the hospital, April still thinks it was a pretty perfect date. Yep, she’s smitten. We just hope that it doesn’t end badly!

Dr. Natalie Manning: After treating a young boy with a broken wrist and noticing that his mother also has a bandaged arm, Nat is worried that there’s another case of child abuse on her hands but is hesitant to jump to such a conclusion after last time. She brings in Dr. Charles for a second opinion and while they initially thought that the father could be the abuser, Dr Charles notices that the other son is displaying some sociopath tendencies (the young actor who played this son blew me away – I honestly believed he was a young sociopath in the making!) With one child being at risk from the other child, child services are brought in to make a recommendation and they recommend that Griffin, the suspected sociopath, should be removed from the family. The parents disagree, believing that it’s just a phase, and when Natalie goes to confront the mother afterwards, she asks the doctor if it were her child, would she send him away?

Maggie Lockwood: I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, Maggie sees all. She sees Sarah chewing gum in the ER and tells her off for being unprofessional, she notices Halstead being weird with Nat and she is also a bit hesitant to believe that things could be real between April and Eric. At the end of the day though, Maggie is also a great listener and lends a sympathetic ear to Sharon in this episode.

Sarah Reese: Sarah’s second thoughts about going to Pathology seem to be getting the best of her this week when she passes out on top of a patient’s lap during a consult this week! Will Halstead runs some tests on her but they all come back fine and after snapping at boyfriend Joey (after he gives her a sweet congratulations present of a bubonic plague slide), she finally admits out loud that pathology is the problem. She later apologises to him and asks him will he still like her if she stays in the ER and he laughs and tells her he doesn’t care which department she works in. Relieved, the med student and soon to be doctor then asks Sharon if there is a way she can change her match from Pathology to the ER and much to her disappointment, the chief administrator tells her that her match is a legally binding contract. Looks like Sarah is stuck with pathology.

CHICAGO FIRE -- Season: 4 -- Pictured: Monica Raymund as Gabriela Dawson -- (Photo by: Chris Haston/NBC)

Gabriela Dawson: Dawson is going over Molly’s books and is concerned that their numbers are down from a year ago. Kidd, having worked in a bar for two years, offers her expertise but Hermann is having none of that. Dawson thinks that he should give Kidd a chance and proposes a Bar Olympics between Hermann and Kidd, a chance for both to put their money where their mouth is. It’s pretty entertaining and brings some light-heartedness while darker things are happening in this ep. In the end, Kidd wins the challenge but tells Hermann that she doesn’t want his money. Instead she just wants the chance to run Molly’s and bring business back up. He gives in and then suspects that the whole thing was just a set up between Dawson and Kidd. At the end of the episode at Molly’s, a mysterious woman shows up and asks Dawson where she can find Casey. Dawson points him out but can’t help but get a vibe from her. She’s right to feel that though – the woman is a political consultant but we’re also thinking that she’s not just interested in Casey’s future career… We hope we’re wrong though, we want to be wrong!

Sylvie Brett: This week Brett and Borelli attend to a call where a woman is found barely breathing lying in her own vomit. It’s a close call, but the woman comes to and opens her eyes to Jimmy leaning over. She is horrified and reveals that she’s just had a tummy tuck, so it’s concluded that she got a post-op infection. The woman has clearly taken a liking to Jimmy and when another call brings Brett and Borelli back to the woman’s home, she invites him to have tea with her. Feeling like an awkward third wheel, Brett goes back to the ambulance to do paperwork. I do think she is somewhat a little amused by this though. Also in this episode, Otis notices some strange bruising on his back and asks Brett to take a look at it. When she does, she recommends that he go to Chicago Med to get it checked out and so he goes to see Dr Halstead. Later at Molly’s, Brett asks Otis how his appointment went and he tells her that he got the all clear, but judging by his stranger behaviour, we don’t think that’s the truth.

Chicago Med and Chicago Fire air Tuesdays at 9/8c and 10/9c respectively, on NBC.  New episodes of Chicago P.D. return May 4 at 10/9c.
