BREAKING NEWS: The Fosters Renewed by ABC Family

The new ABC Family summer drama The Fosters debuted this past June, airing its summer finale in August. The rest of its freshman season is currently under production with new episodes set to roll out starting in January 2014.

And now comes news from Deadline that The Fosters has been given a second season renewal.

For those who need a refresher, The Fosters focuses on a multi-ethnic family mix of foster, adopted, and biological kids being raised by two moms and stars Teri Polo (Meet the Fockers), Sherri Saum (In Treatment and Gossip Girl) as the moms and David Lambert (Aaron Stone), Maia Mitchell (Teen Beach Movie), Jake T. Austin (Wizards of Waverly Place), Cierra Ramirez (The Secret Life of the American Teenager) and Hayden Byerly (Parenthood) as their kids.

Congrats to the cast and creative team – which includes executive producer Jennifer Lopez and creators Bradley Bredeweg and Peter Paige – on the renewal.

Again, The Fosters will return to ABC Family in January 2014.
