Comic Con 2013: 5 Tips to Get the Most Out of SDCC

By  |

It’s that time of year again – Comic Con! Several of the Nice Girls will descend upon San Diego this week to get the scoop on our favorite shows, and we’re super excited. But we’re also practical. With more than 20 years of combined experience at Comic Con, here are some tips we’ve learned the hard way so you don’t have to!

  1. “Pace yourself,” advises Rueben. There’s so much exciting stuff to see and do, that you’ll be tempted to book yourself solid all day, every day. Resist the temptation! Pare down your schedule to your MUST see/do, then have another list of WOULD LIKE to see/do for back up. You’ll be less stressed and have a lot more fun.
  2. “Patience is a virtue,” Louise reminds us. The crowds, the lines, the at-capacity rooms – Comic Con can be pretty frustrating. But if you’re patient and keep your eyes open and your wits about you, you may discover an opportunity you never expected.
  3. “Wear comfortable shoes and clothing,” Melissa suggests. Chances are you’ll be wearing that outfit for 16 hours while walking, sitting, eating, conversing, taking pictures, squeezing through crowds, and meeting your idol. Make sure what you put on is something you can live in for that long.
  4. “Be flexible,” says Mynda. “Sometimes it’s the journey and not the destination that create the best memories. Don’t be so focused on getting in to “whatever” that you forget to enjoy what’s around you.”
  5. “Carry food, sunscreen, and an extra cell phone battery at all times,” Cay stresses. Hungry people get cranky; sunburns happen quickly in the SoCal sun; and a dead cell phone can be a huge aggravation. Be prepared!

What are your tried and true tips for surviving Comic Con and getting the most out of it?
