Nice Boy of the Week: Adam Scott

By  |

If you do a google search for Adam Scott, the first page is filled with results for two different celebrities. While they have much in common, ‘slightly tousled’ hair, low-key success in their chosen field, and a charming humility, the Adam Scott I’m profiling is not at all interested in golf.

He currently stars as Ben Wyatt in the ensemble cast of Parks & Recreation, and has upcoming roles in the [easyazon-link asin=”B004RCLTAM”]Party Down[/easyazon-link] movie as well as a remake of [easyazon-link asin=”6305047529″]The Secret Life of Walter Mitty[/easyazon-link].

He was born right up the road from my home town, in Santa Cruz, California. His parents are retired teachers, and he has an older brother and sister. Along with Luminaries such as Lauren Bacall, Anne Bancroft, and Spencer Tracy; he is a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles. Currently, he is married to Naomi (Sablan) Scott and they have two children. His wife is a television writer / producer (Jimmy Kimmel Live!)

It’s quite apparent by the projects in which he participates that he is loyal and close to his friends. You can frequently see him in videos / shows / movies with his pals Jon Hamm, Ken Marino and Paul Rudd. He’s not afraid to parody himself or the acting profession, which is aces in my book.

The fact that he often plays the ‘brother’ character has been joked about. In August, Step Brothers, The Vicious Kind, and Our Idiot Brother, he plays the sibling role – and quite well. In fact, he received three award nominations for The Vicious Kind, winning two. Nominated for Best Male Lead at the Independent Spirit awards, while winning Best Performance at the Birmingham Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival and the Festival Prize at the Strasbourg International Film Festival in France.

I first noticed him when he played Ben Cooper on Six Feet Under, one of David Fisher’s love interests, but got reacquainted with the actor when he starred in Starz’s Party Down. He does the classic wry-humored straight man role, and it’s endearing in a dark kinda way. His role as Ben Wyatt on Parks & Recreation has gone from abrasive to downright warm and fuzzy.

A lot of folks remember him from Boy Meets World, or Party of Five, but he has stated on several occasions that he considers his small part in Hellraiser IV: Bloodline as the time he ‘made it’ in show business. A PA led him to his director’s chair and he was ecstatic – then when the tape with the name ‘Adam Craig’ was affixed, he realized he still had work to do.

Adam frequently trades quips and barbs with his peers on Twitter, including Chelsea Peretti, Joel McHale, Paul Scheer, and Doug Benson.

Join me in welcoming Adam Scott  to our Nice Boys Wall of Fame, and remember to watch him Thursdays on NBC in Parks & Recreation.

Karen Lindsay, often teased as being "obscurely famous," talks a lot. (i.e. she podcasts). Her current and past projects involve television shows like "Chuck", "Castle", "Orphan Black", "Farscape", "Supergirl", "Lucifer" and many others. She's an avid gamer, reader, & collector of all things shiny - and while you may not think those things go hand-in-hand, they sometimes do. So don't ask her about how many pets she has in Warcraft. (or how shiny they are).
