Most of the cast of Castle made an appearance at Comic Con last month in San Diego, and as you can imagine, hilarity ensued. With TV Guide columnist William Keck acting as moderator, he introduced cast members Jon Huertas, Tamala Jones, Seamus Dever, Molly Quinn and Nathan Fillion to the stage to the thunderous applause of the over capacity crowd.

Molly, once again, surprised the fans by dressing up – last year she wore a Star Trek dress. This year she was dressed as none other than Malcolm Reynolds, the character that Nathan made famous in the short-lived Joss Whedon-created series Firefly and its box office sequel Serenity.

Since Stana Katic could not attend the event, an audience member was selected to come up on stage and do a reading with Nathan, which was not only a highlight for her as she seemed to be a very big fan of Nathan’s but also brought a lot of laughter to the audience.

The audience was then presented with a special clip reel of Castle and Beckett moments throughout the past three seasons, leading up to the season finale where Kate gets shot. Then a short clip from the season premiere was shown to the elated crowd.

When asked if she could talk about the scene that was shown, which I will only reveal as a clip of what happens directly after Kate is shot, featuring Lanie, Castle and, of course, Kate, Tamala was careful with what she said so as not to spoil, “I was very emotional the whole day. The whole outcome is going to be so much more epic than the season finale.”

Getting serious for a moment or two, the actors then talked about the unfortunate demise of Captain Roy Montgomery and the fact that actor Ruben Santiago-Hudson would be leaving the show. Jon shared that, “It was a very sad day for all of us,” while Seamus joked that, “now I have no one to talk theater with.” Seamus then sincerely stated, “Ruben was fantastic and we miss him tremendously.”

The fans were excited to learn that not only will there be a Halloween episode themed around Ghostbusters, but that there will be an episode featuring a superhero theme. And, viewers can also expect wedding plans between Detective Ryan (Dever) and his fiancée Jenny. In fact, Seamus shared there could be “possibly (be some) fighting over who is going to be the best man.”

Molly then talked about what viewers can expect from Alexis this year. “Well, she has a serious boyfriend. She’s applying for Stanford and then (her) dad throws himself in front of a woman who’s about to get shot and endangers his life, which kind of endangers (her) life and (her) grandmother’s life. She’s going to be voicing a lot of her opinions and how she feels. At first it was okay because he was just playing around, because he was doing it for the book. But now it’s like he’s actually enjoying chasing down killers and getting into trouble. I don’t think Alexis is too happy about that.”

There is also the possibility of viewers finally learning the identification of Castle’s dad this season. With that thought in mind, each of the panelists were asked who they would like to see play Rick’s dad. Jon said Ken Howard (from Providence and The White Shadow), Tamala said Christopher Walken and Nathan said William Katt (The Greatest American Hero).

It was then time to open up the panel to audience questions and the panel ended with a sneak peek at the bonus features on the season 3 DVD. It should also be noted that the next Nikki Heat novel will be out in October and the new graphic novel for Castle will be featured in an upcoming fall episode.
