Ashley Benson Talks Pretty Little Liars and Playing Christmas Cupid

Bubbly Pretty Little Liars star Ashley Benson is delighted that her new movie, an updated version of Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol called Christmas Cupid, is part of ABC Family’s 25 Days of Christmas.  “I love A Christmas Carol,” she told us in a recent conference call. “It was such a good story and Charles Dickens is amazing and I watched the movie last year, A Christmas Carol, and to be doing another version of that was really awesome and to be a part of the 25 Days of Christmas on ABC Family couldn’t get any better because I watched that every year with my family and I know a lot of other families do, too and it’s just like a good time to spend with them and they just play the best Christmas movies and to be part of that is really exciting.”

Also starring Chad Michael Murray and Christina Millian, Christmas Cupid is the story of Sloan Spencer (Millian), a high powered Hollywood publicist who finds herself haunted by the ghost of her recently departed infamous client Caitlin (Benson). With just days before Christmas, Caitlin takes Sloane on a journey to meet the ghosts of her ex-boyfriends from the past, present and future to try and guide her to true love in a modern day take on the Charles Dickens’ holiday classic story A Christmas Carol.

Ashley’s character in Christmas Cupid, Caitlin, is “a little similar to [her Pretty Little Liars character] Hannah because she’s kind of a wild child. She’s a famous movie star, she does what she wants when she wants. She goes out to a club and chokes on a martini and dies and comes back as a ghost,” she laughs. “It’s this huge wild adventure. She was was much fun. It’s my first time to actually be in a real comedy, so I was a little nervous, but I think it turned out well. It was so fun to play a comedic character.”

Fans of Pretty Little Liars have a lot to look forward to when the show returns in January. Ashley promises more of “Hefty Hannah” in flashbacks, and reveals, “That’s my favorite stuff to play.”

When the series returns, it picks up with Hannah in the hospital after getting run over.” She’s shaken but doesn’t remember much. She thinks she remembers who she saw by the car in the woods and who she thinks is A. She tells the girls and it gets insane from there,” Ashley says with palpable excitement.

Christmas Cupid debuts on ABC Family’s 25 Days of Christmas on Sunday, December 12 at 8/7. Pretty Little Liars returns Monday, January 3 at 8/7c.
